NULL devices in Z-Wave logs?

Hey all,

My hub is acting weird when I turn on/off scenes to Z-Wave devices -- sometimes all the scene lights come on just fine, sometimes nothing happens, sometimes some lights come on.

In troubleshooting this I've noticed that some devices in the Z-Wave logs do not have an id:

This feels like a database corruption problem or something related. Any thoughts?

Hub is C7 v. 2.3.8.119.

Sounds like ghosts in your Zwave table. Can you post a screen shot of your ZWave Details page?

Not even ghosts, more like orphaned devices that are still on the mesh but possibly not attached to a device within HE. Will look the same as ghosted node in the details, except it would pass a refresh or repair if its still active.

Thanks for responding! I've attached a screen shot. Sorry, I've got a lot of devices.

There is one device (0x68) which does not have a name but I don't think I have any ghost devices.

Hmmm what do you think @jtp10181

The one without the name is probably the null device in the z-wave logs.
That is a device attached to the z-wave radio but it is not linked to a device in the HE database.

Try a refresh and repair on it, if it works then its a running device. You might be able to attach a virtual device to it again, or you may need to exclude and pair it again to fix it.

If the refresh and repair are failing, then it is what we call a ghost node, and you will want to remove it. However since it shows neighbors attached you would need to use a secondary controller to remove it.

Thanks again for your help. Refresh and repair both work for the device. I have no idea what device this is.

So I created a Virtual Device and edited its Device Netowrk ID to 68. It still shows as blank on the Z-Wave list.

I've turned the virtual device on/off and see this in the regular log:

Still seeing nulls in the Z-Wave log. Not sure what to try next

Yeah not sure how to make it link up from z-wave details, I think that it what would put the name to it in the zwave logs.

What driver did you try? I would try one of the generic z-wave switch drivers, since it says it is a switch, do not use a virtual switch driver that will not send commands to the device. Turn on debug logging and you should be able to see if it is responding to on/off commands.

If it responds to commands you could do a rule to toggle it on and off until you can figure out where it is.

I found the device. It's an old GE wall switch that has gone bad. After unplugging it I was unable to refresh or repair. So I removed it entirely.

Since deletion I have not seen any null devices in the Z-Wave logs! I think all is well again. Thank you!
