Notification Behavior

I have a notification setup to warn me that someone is coming down the steps when I'm in my study. I startle kind of easily. I really only want/need one notification. This option (see screenshot) doesn't seem to work. Is there another way to handle throttling potential repeat notifications?

What is actually happening? Can you provide logs to demonstrate the behavior?

What I expect - Get ONE notification of "motion on stairs" in 5 minutes
What I get - "Motion on stairs EVERY time the motion detector detects motion. Even if it's 3 times in a minute.

Interestingly the logs don't really show anything extra. And I don't see where you can turn on debugging on the notification app.

Here's a minute of logs while I trigger the motion detector. Meanwhile I got multiple notifications.

I am not able to replicate this behavior in an instance I created configured nearly identically to yours.

One thing about your configuration that is apparent from the screenshot: you haven't selected any notification devices. As-is, this app really wouldn't be doing anything for you. Are you sure something else isn't sending the notification instead? Check the "In use by" section on the device detail page for the motion sensor to get some good guesses, or check that or the "Events" page accessible from the device detail page for your notification devices to see what apps sent notification commands to it (commands, not events; unfortunately, you won't actually get the text/parameter, so you'll still need to confirm why you're seeing what you do).

There is a switch for this right above the "Restrictions" section. That being said, it doesn't really show anything too exciting for cases like this.

If you've verified all the above, consider removing this app and creating a new one to see if the behavior persists.

Okay. I'm confused. The yellow circled parts aren't right? Because I do get both text and audio notifications from this. I'm glad that this is supposed to work. I'll try to recreate it from scratch since it's so simple anyway.

@bertabcd1234 Rechecked and you were right! I had an old RM Rule that basically did the same thing, without any repeat restrictions. I deleted that, and re-created this notifier for good measure. Everything is working correctly now. Thanks for your help!
