I was pretty sure that they only did that when I bought the latest. Nice to know others are doing their best to get the next goodie released... although I must admit, I don't know what improvement would compel me to buy one. Four C-8Pro's running my home seems like more than enough
If i were a betting man, i would bet that the 900 series z-wave chips wont be released until after TI closes on it acquisition of Silicon Labs in the first half of 2027. I think TI making that announcement shortly after closing would be good for itβs stock price.
I reside alone*, and am not "automated to the teeth", so one is plenty! What in the world are you doing with four? Or, is your place the size of the Biltmore Mansion?
*Once I get moved near family I hope to add a dawg to my home.
Like so many, I have been doing this for a long while, before Hubitat even. I set myself a device limit way back then and have stuck with it through the C-3/C-4's, C-5's, C-6's, C-7's and C-8's. When I can predict I'll exceed my 65 device arbitrary limit, I get another hub. They are all conversing of course, so at any given moment, I might as well have just one. But the responsiveness of a hub that has a smaller number of devices is still something I want. I divided my home by area. That's one hub for Upstairs, one for Downstairs and then when I predicted a limit was nearing, I got a hub for "Front" and moved a 'slice' of devices from both up and downstairs to Front. The 4th hub is all my non-radio devices, be it sprinkler, HVAC, or weather.
Because I've done this over a long period, I've got just about every wall outlet and wall switch/dimmer replaced with smart devices, and every room has motion sensors, door/window sensors, etc. which is pretty expensive total, but not really detectable years after the expense has gone into the mists of time.
Besides the advantage of responsiveness, multiple hubs don't all die at once. Having a third of my house stop is annoying as can be, but it's only a third... and even then, maybe only one 'important light' is affected for the time it would take to reboot. Like most homes, I suspect, there aren't 10 things a minute going on much of the time.
I think with that one you'll be able to identify the hub by blinking its led. Wait, that feature is out on beta already, so I'll take that back. Keep on roaring...
I just this minute installed my C-8 Pro. I just followed the links, restored from a cloud backup, ran the updates, and it seems to be ticking along just fine.
OK, I'm being serious again. There is apparently some update to Z-Wave that the Pro can do that the non-Pro could not. Where is this setting and should I do it? I have. lot of Zooz stuff here.
All versions can update z-wave. (As well as zigbee) In the case of z-wave you need the firmware from the manufacturer. Simply add the firmware updated app from built in apps. For zigbee devices, Hubitat themselves must have the firmware update before you can update it.
