Ladies and gentlemen, I have nothing but love for you all!!! I just recently (this weekend, actually) abandoned Samsung SmartThings. In the course of implementing Hubitat Elevation, I have learned SO much from all of the great posts, articles, etc. found in this community! I also discovered community-managed drivers that provides enhanced functionality for my sensors, scene controllers, and even my thermostat! Halleluiah !!!!!!
You are an AWESOME crowd, and this is an AWESOME platform!!
Welcome to the club. I'm a fellow ST refugee. Been here since 2020. I hope you find HE to work as smoothly as I have. In the past 5+ years, I think my hub has only stopped working once and it was pretty painless to bring it back up.
Thanks for the welcome! I agree! The tools that are available are amazing! Every day, I learn new things that HE can do, and every day I am more and more impressed!
Same (as many here), refugee from SmartThings and never looked back. Way more fun, way more control over the experience, and amazingly, the Hubitat staff actually hang out here and listen and respond to us.
Welcome. There are lots of ex SmartThings users here, and I also left SmartThings a few years ago when they eliminated the Groovy cloud that gave us so many great apps in SmartThing, like Webcore, Echo Speaks, and others. Groovy lives on in Hubitat in local form, and many of those old SmartThings apps were already made compatible with Hubitat, and some have continued to be ported over from old SmartThings code. I brought all my Webcore pistons with me from SmartThings, which made moving my automations so easy.
There are so many great community apps and drivers available. Are you using Package Manager? That is the easiest way to find and install community apps and drivers, though you get a lot of good info and instructions if you find the [RELEASE] post for it here as well.
If you have any issues with community apps or drivers, remember it is best to ask questions in the actual release post to get the attention of the developer who created it.
I agree this community is second to none. I am not a ST refugee but I use both Hubitat and Home Assistant with sprinkling in an Aqara hub and some other controls. I can 100% say this community is amazing and there is nothing from the other systems or their communities that compare.
No other community is so willing to help either it be from community members or staff. No other community will dig into the trenches with you to work step by step through your problem till you get a resolution. Others just say "that is xyz basics why don't you know this".
This community will also dig in to help you with issues not even related to Hubitat. That is so rare
This community is why I would never consider making another smart home platform my main platform. As new things role out in Hubitat that I once used the others for I find myself migrating more and more over to Hubitat.
The HA community isn't all that much different than Hubitat's, however, they are a very platform centric group. When I was having trouble installing HACS in HA so I could use the Hubitat Integration, I got a lot of attitude. The idea that HA is not your Main hub really turns off that community, as I get the sense that in their view HA is the best and nobody should be using anything else as their main hub, or people are ignorant if they don't realize how great HA is and they use something else as their main hub. Maybe that was just my experience.
I'm just saying that I find this community to be a bit friendlier and less condescending, especially when other home systems are discussed about being used with Hubitat.
Didn't have a problem with HACS but yes my experience could basically be copied and pasted in your statement. I have experienced a lot of no replies and condescending remarks on your exact basis.
I have never experienced this here. Actually completely the opposite.
I was following some out-of-date procedure or something for installing HACS that I guess didn't work anymore on the version of HA I was using. It is very simple, but without the proper instructions it didn't work, so I went straight to the community for help. I guess they thought I was being stupid to have not found the methods that did work.
We have been meaning to have a word with you.... Personally I feel like my productivity at work has been affected, others are worried they are not spending as much time with their family.... It is starting to become a real issue...
Exactly. When my boss comes to me and says my productivity has greatly decreased I have no option but to say "I am sorry but I must maintain presence on the forum so see the next @danabw comment and input, it's all about priorities man!!!"
