No response from hub

Is my C-7 dead? Light is green but it does respond to the iOS app ("no response from hub"), locally or remotely, does not show up in the list of devices in my router, does not respond to ping, can't open its page with a browser, normally or via 8081 port. The light is green.

I have turned it off and left it off for 10+ minutes several times, rebooted the LAN router several times, nothing works. There was no power outage or anything, all other LAN-connected devices are working just fine.

What can I try more?

If you power cycled it and it went through the LED colors... blue to green, then it's more likely that the IP address changed on you.

Try the portal and see if it's displaying the IP you're expecting.

Nope. It shows the expected IP but the "Connect to hub" button is greyed out. BTW, it's on 2.3.0.124 and on the portal it shows last checkin to have been on 03/07/2022 - 10:51:31 (I'm at GMT+00:00)

So it's "phoned home today" and that's a good sign.

The next question is.. are the Automations working? The Hub does not need an Admin connection (browser) to continue to run Zigbee and ZWave automations... are these still working for you?

Nope, no automations are working. It phoned home about 13 hours ago and then nothing.

I'd put in a Ticket to allow Support to see if they can reach it.

Yep, just did that.

I don’t expect this would work based on what you describe, but do you get anything if you try going to:

On the bottom of the hub there is a small button, if you press and hold it, it should reset DHCP setting to the defaults, reboot and force a request for a new IP Lease. If that doesn’t work sometimes rebooting the router works.

Thx, but it doesn't work....

That's my next move, I need physical access to it as that exceeds my wife's troubleshooting capabilities. I have already ordered another hub that I'm overnighting from the only EU supplier in Poland. If this one is definitively dead, I will claim warranty but moving forward, having a backup on hand seems to be a good move. I have to say that, despite all the crashes and all sorts of nightmares, my Vera Plus never died on me in the 4 years I used it.

Not that it helps, but the 8 Hubitat Hubs I've purchased over the years... none of them have ever died either. I've retired 3 of them, a C-3 and a couple of C-4's because I replaced them with newer C-5's and C-7's.

I can echo this. I haven't been around quite as long as csteele, but my C5 that I have had since April 2019 and C7 that I got in November 2020 have not given any issues.

From what I see on the forums, most of the hardware issues are apparent right out of the box.

Do you have any vlan's? Download Advanced port scanner (free) and scan your network to look for your hub, You should find it. I really do believe it changed address. Another option would be to set up a DHCP reservation in your router for the hub, then hit the reset button on the bottom of the hub again. It should pick up the reservation by that point.

If the hub has been getting unplugged and plugged back in without a clean shutdown repeatedly during your diagnostics, the database "may" be corrupt. If this is the case and you are able to find the hub with Advanced Port Scanner, then do the following.

Go to yourhubip:8081

Go to download backups and download the latest to your pc.

Click soft reset and follow instructions

Upon reboot use the backup you downloaded to your pc to restore.

Let us know what happens.,

Are the send/receive lights on the ethernet jack lighting up?

All sorted. My wife misinformed me and in fact, all automations were working so it was alive.

As it wouldn’t get an IP from the router, regardless of router reboots and turning off the c7. So I did the DHCP settings reset and after a bit it came back with a different IP.

I had a static IP configured in the hub, not a reservation in the router. Now I switched it around, I’m keeping the hub in DHCP and a reservation in the router.

I had these things before but it was quickly sorted with a router reboot. For reference it’s a Asus RT-AC88U, not sure whether there’s any kind of incompatibility.

Still thinking about this, why should it make any difference? I have several devices in my network configured in the exact same way, requesting IPs from the router with no IP reservation on the router.

Some of them are working like that for several years, across 3 different routers I have had in this home with no hiccups. These include a printer, a washing machine, 4 x AppleTVs, etc, etc.

What address do you put in the browser to connect to your Hubitat? If you put an IP address that doesn't match the current IP address of the hub, it will obviously not work. If you use mDNS, then in theory, you should be to access your hub at http://hubitat.local no matter what its IP address is.
