ust discovered that an expensive Weiser Halo Select Lock with Matter support that I purchased CANNOT connect to my Hubitat C-8 Pro.
Doesn't say much for Matter and its supposed ease of connection for devices to hubs. Demonstrates to me that the hype around Matter being the ultimate home automation solution is just that; hype.
Leaves a very poor impression of Hubitat and Weiser when their Matter enabled products won't talk to each other.
Why is this?!

Some of them have a Thread Border Router (TBR) built in, and you can use that...
Some of us are anxiously awaiting a TBR enabled Hubitat, but noone knows if they are going to make/sell such a thing. It would be nice though...
Matter uses two underlying "transports". WiFi and Thread.
Many line-powered Matter-compatible devices use WiFi, and can be paired directly with Hubitat, or through a different Matter controller.
Most battery-powered Matter-compatible devices use Thread as a transport because it is far less power hungry. Thread is very similar to Zigbee in that respect. Hubitat doesn't have a Thread radio. However, if you have a Thread Border Router in your network, you can first pair the lock to the TBR, and then to Hubitat.
A significant issue with Matter deployment is inadequate consumer education - Matter device manufacturers indicate what transport their device uses while rarely indicating the the implications of that.
To add to this list. Apple Homepod Minis are also TBRs. So are some Amazon Echos and Google devices.
