No internet = long delay

I lost the internet for a few minutes this morning. I noticed there was a long delay when trying to edit a rule. Then I tried editing different app and they all took between 20 to 25 seconds to open. When the internet came back, I retried editing the same apps and they all opened instantly. Other pages were not affected.

Why is that?

What device(s) were you trying to use when you experienced the delay? E.g. Desktop PC/Laptop, mobile tablet/phone/etc...

Desktop.

All internal access where normal and other pages in the hubitat UI where working fine. Only app edit was delayed.

Hmmm.. There are likely others here (i.e. Network Engineers) plus the platform dev's who can diagnose this more accurately than me... Could it be a DNS routing issue... an app issue of some kind... I don't know...

If nothing else, what platform version are you on? And what O/S and browser are you trying to use?

2.4.3.172 (waiting for 2.4.4 to come out)

Chromium on linux.

This was happening for some time. Even with previous platform. I just tested more this time.

What App were you trying to edit? Some community apps get a little fancy with html and sometimes point to internet locations, like GitHub, to load icons and other content.

Built-in Hubitat apps do not do this. However, I have seen custom community apps and drivers do this which would cause delays when the Internet is not available.

One question would be whether it occurs on other devices at the same time...? e.g. could it be an extension, etc...

Rule machine and average humidity from @bravenel.

I did not have time to test other before the internet came back. I guess I can turn off my modem to test further.

Depends if your "modem" is also your "router"....

You mean a Windows machine :face_vomiting:

I have one hidden in the back of a closet I access remotely once or twice a year.

They are separate.

@ymerj Likely DNS (Were you using canonical names or the actual IP?)

I use direct IP

You could use another Linux distro.... or Android... or Windows...

What Browser plug-ins do you use? Perhaps one of those is the issue?

Bare metal Chromium. No plug-ins.

Wouldn't it be funny if Edge worked without issue on Windows... Not helping...

Would that cause problem with other pages? It happened only with edition of app.

It can because it's trying to go to the initial DNS before searching mDNS. To test this, simply disconnect your internet at the router (pull the wan cable) then using a PC go to the actual IP address of your hub.

Or device of your choice...
