Hi all,
just received my C-8 hub today, and have ALREADY found myself in an absolute nightmare of confusion and what seems like iffy design. Pretty frustrated, and am already tempted to send it back after having scoured Google and looking for posts on here and on Reddit. I don't know how to make this super short so I will just try to be thorough at least.
Prior to receiving my C-8 in the mail I had downloaded the Hubitat iOS app and had made an account on there. After receiving it today I went through the instructions for setup, but when I got to the account part of it I tried to log in to my existing account during setup but it wouldn't let me log in. So, I then made a new account with a different email address and completed setup that way. I then proceeded to initiate a "Delete Account" request for the initial email address, but then going through more of the setup stuff with the second account I find that I can't because then somehow the hub is associated with the other email address, the one that is then slated for delivery. I go through an annoying process to try and change the password for the old account and do so, login through there, but even though on the other email account it said it was associated with the first email account, it would not show up under registered hubs when I log in with THAT email address either. Having not set up a single device and having read online a number of different things I then went through both processes of soft reset and full reset, but neither solved the problem. I have started over from scratch and only logged in with/used the initial email address (the one I was told through the app it was somehow associated with it in the first place) but it still will not show up under registered hubs. I have 100% stopped using that second email address for anything, never logging into it, started from scratch again with the initial email account, to no avail. Same issues. I have reset the device, I have power cycled it, I have power cycled that modem and router, I have assigned a static IP address, I have done everything I can find on here and still it will not associate with the account. Same goes for the iOS app, I just get an error screen saying "No Hub(s) found for: this email address" and it tells me to go to the portal. I go to the portal and it does tell me that an email address is "linked to this hub." but when I login to "My Account" now under the "Registered Hubs" heading it again says "There are no hubs associated with the email address." This is literally day 1 and I have not even begun to try to implement utilizing this device and this is the type of hassle I'm already dealing with and am already having huge buyers remorse. Anyone have any fixes?
It's just pretty frustrating to find out that the only support for such a basement/foundational issue as setup is the community forum. How much regret am I going to have in trying to move forward with this device?
Can the hub reach the Internet? I believe you won't see it under "Registered Hubs" unless it's been online recently. It sounds like you set a static IP, and a common problem with Internet connectivity using that setup is incorrect DNS configuration. Make sure that are set to something valid (try putting something in even if it looks like something is already there, like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), or revert to DHCP just to test for now. This all assumes you have no other unusual network configuration that might be affecting this (different vLANs, restrictive firewalls, etc., perhaps the second most common issues).
It does at least sound like your hub registered. You can check that under Settings > Hub Details. Note that you only need the mobile app for specific, optional features, and the interface I'm taking about is one that can be accessed from any browser -- in case that part wasn't already apparent.
I only assigned a static IP after much fumbling around and everything else failing and finding another piece of documentation somewhere on the Hubitat forum to do so, but I was having the same issues before the static IP was assigned.
I don't know how to test if the hub can reach the internet.
I definitely don't have any unusual network configurations. No firewall, no VPN, no vLANs, the only thing I've ever done was setup a static IP for my Nvidia Shield and I think port forwarding for it, nothing network-wide.
Set the hub for DHCP, then go to settings>>network settings>>network test
Update to the latest platform via settings>>check for updates.
After switching back and forth a couple times from fixed IP and DHCP (I don't even know if that tech expression is even fluent) but after doing that a couple of times and rebooting a couple of times it is now connected. Could not begin to tell you what changed or what did it, but I appreciate you people hoppin' in.
Now to decide whether to just go all in on Zooz Zen72 switches for my smart bulbs, or wait indefinitely for the much more expensive 800 series Inovelli Red 2-1 switches?
