Newbie with a question

Just as a side note, there are some Ikea devices that won't pair up with HE or Hue (mostly the puck dimmer and other button type remotes), but you can replace those pretty easily with Z-Wave/Zigbee remotes cheaply. The outlets (should you have any) and signal repeaters pair up with the HE hub easily and work really well.

Slightly off-topic, but my entire house is motion/contact/voice controlled. Walk into a room and lights come on restricted by mode and turn off again. As an example, walk into the kitchen and the mode is "Home - Morning", half the lights come on at various brightness levels. Leave the room and they turn off after a few minutes. Open certain doors, and lights come on and turn off (mostly closets and my attic/crawlspace). We have that same setup in every room of the house and also the outdoor lights. My wife likes to brag to her friends that she hasn't had to touch a light switch for years now.

Give the pucks a try  great for on/off bedside switches :+1:

I’ve banned myself from there for now, until I can control my urges hahaha.

The TRƅDFRI dimmer units are awesome too!

One thing I am curious about is, if the light is in the on position but the bulb is off. Does that consume electricity ?

I’ve also seen a video of the pucks working for the hue, maybe you have older ones ?

@corerootedxb has said they don’t work? Is there an update ?

Perhaps? I was never able to get mine to pair to either hub.

Yes, it's a trickle amount of electricity though. Barely enough to even register.

For some reason, I've found that if I turn any device off, as soon as its been found, then back on quickly, I can then save the device. This only happens with Ikea stuff, bulbs and the dimmer units.

That’s good to know, I took the plunge and ordered a HE.

@Shaneb Go with philips hue. Don't mix ikea and Hue and you will be rock solid regarding light. And really easy to integrate and get started. Did the same road a couple of month ago. Live in Sweden and all EU devices i got works great.

Google assistant / IFTTT is also really easy to integrate and get upp and running.

@chrbratt The issue I have with hue is the price, the Ikea bulb prices are very appealing. I am keeping an eye for hue second hand items on eBay

Was same here, but Ikea is not reliable. At least not for me. Have around 10 ikea e27 bulbs not in use as they tend to suddenly stop working. Hue e27 soft white 2-pack is around $25 here. So as long as you don't need colur bulbs it's not a lot more expensive. But rock solid.

If you want Philips Hue A19 white bulbs to attach to a Hue Bridge, Amazon has a 4-pack for only $40.

If you already have Ikea devices, and a hub on the way, then you’ve nothing to lose trying to link them to HE and see how they perform for you.

I’ve 10 GU10s in a group for the kitchen lights, operated by two Hue dimmers also linked to HE. They work pretty much flawless. Plus 4 other e14s in bedside lamps, again no issues and I use the Ikea pucks to operate those.

I have two TRƅDFRI dimmer units in the kitchen, operated by an Xiaomi motion sensor, and the same in my office. The dimmer units in the kitchen have the Norfly strips connected there, and in the office some spot lights attached. I’ve yet to have issues with any of them. And all much cheaper than Hue (which I have too, connected to a Hue bridge).

Just saying, give them a go, they may work as well for you as they have me.

I think my problem can be related to a first poor batch of lights so maybe you should not take my experience with this as a reference for how they perform. As i live i Sweden and bought them near the same day they was for sale at Ikea back at 2016, and Sweden was the first market they got released. Have firmware updated them but no difference in stability. A few of them could not even be discovered by Ikea's own gateway anymore. Light can be turn on/off by a physical switch but nothing else. Some of them do work but will soon be unreachable. Tried pared them to Ikea's gateway, Hue and Hubitat but they are not reliable on any of them. Should have got them replaced but tried hue instead and as they are rock solid it was a easy decision and i chose my path to stick with hue for lights.

But maybe i should stop by and buy some new and get a second opinion
Have you guys check the other thing's that Ikea soon will release in this Intelligent home serie ?

I might give one or 2 a go, for the price and their 360 day return policy I am losing nothing really....except I will probably buy lots of other items I don’t need from Ikea

I read on another forum (can’t remember which) that others have had the same problem with older bulbs over newer ones, regardless of firmware updates. It may be worth another visit.

In regards to the smart speakers. I want the lamps, they look stunning,

That was my reflection to, really want the lamp! =)
Especially if you can let rule machine / bigtalker app send voice alerts from Hubitat event's as you can with a Sonos speaker today (not tried that my self as i let google assistant do that true an assistant relay server). That would be the best with it!
I read an article of a danish reporter that had the opportunity to listen to them and his opinion was that they sound's great and really sounded like great Sonos speakers.

@chrbratt my fear was they sounded good to make me want them, the price for then isn’t that bad $179 for lamp $99 for bookshelf speaker, I can see myself using the bookshelf speakers more.

@Royski I think everyone has that problem, it’s probably the reason Ikea make you tour the whole shop before leaving

Another brief update!

I have my hub setup and connected to a Hue bridge. I have no idea what automations I want to do yet, but I do have a couple of contact sensors and Ikea bulbs. Just been messing with them for now
