Newbie: Can't get portal to detect my new Hubitat Hub

Just received my HH today  But I’m getting nowhere as far as getting the portal site to detect it. I also discovered that the login screen’s user-id (email addr) field is CaSe-sensitive! At least it is on my iMac using Chrome or Safari. That’s going to throw a lot of people…

Now that I can log in, the portal site does not list anything - no hub. I power cycled hub twice so far, changed USB ports that the z-things is plugged into etc. My iMac computer is connected via wifi to same LAN as HHub. What to do?

Suggestion for support: Why is there no link to email support on website or in pamphlet? Maybe at least put a link for Support - even if it directs one to this Community forum…

TIA,
Mike

I have massive sympathy

There’s a HUGE delay between that first boot and the appearance of the Register Hub button.

What I got both times was JUST the hub’s name and clicking on that failed, because the hub was not yet registered!

Waiting 15 mins or so until the Register Hub button appears (repeated web page refreshes) solved it for ME… YMMV

My issue was my own stupidity  . I mistakenly plugged the HHub’s ethernet cable into the only unused ethernet jack on my Verizon wifi router - which just happened to be the WAN port (ethernet). My Verizon router gets its WAN from a coax connection, so ethernet WAN is not to be used  . Being dark in the equipment cabinet, I saw an empty jack and plugged away… My bad. Support emailed and posted here, quickly offering their support! I went to snap a picture of HHub’s MAC sticker, then realized what I had done…

One tip for newbies (and maybe a few regulars): the user-id field on the login screen (portal at least, maybe community login too?) is CaSe-sensitive! I couldn’t figure why I could log in on one browser (that had already memorized/saved my credentials), but couldn’t log in on a different browser. Just a simple Case of Case  . I suggested they add a note to that effect - either below the user-id/email field, or a dimmed note right within the field…

I would think the default would be to assume case sensitivity.

I’ve been doing IT for over 30 years and only seen case sensitivity used in passwords - never user-ids or email addresses. I’m primarily a Windows guy, but do realize Linux is extremely case sensitive, so perhaps the Hubitat developers are Linuxians? But case does add another layer of security👍 Just need to advertise it since it’s use in user-ids is so rare…

Yes, it’s a Linux based system, and yes, everything is case sensitive in Linux, even files and directories. I’m mostly a Windows guy myself because per user file ownership for every program drives me crazy.
