New z-wave plug. Wrong driver?

So I just paired up the following plug. It’s not acting right. Big delays when turning off or on. Sometimes it doesn’t even respond??

Leviton DZPA1-2BW

I'm starting to think it's the distance from hubitat....

So I managed to get the firmware driver updated on the device. It's now reporting on and off.

However, i'm pretty certain the location of where it's sitting is the issue.

I will have to look into a repeater. Does anyone have any suggestions on which one I should get?

I have both of these and they both work great. The ZW117 and the DMEX1.

It appears to work great outside this room. That’s why I suspect it’s to far from the hub or there is to much interference.

Do you have another one? It will act as a z-wave repeater.

Also I think most powered z-wave stuff will too.. Aeotec has some range extenders but they are kinda pricey and only useful for repeating. Might as well get something you can use...

Another thought from a recent thread is to get 2 of the IKEA outlets ($10 a piece in the US - not the new usb repeater!) and use your z-wave plug elsewhere.

Note: these are Zigbee repeaters.

Do these pair directly up to Hubitat, or do you need a bridge? You said there Zigbee devices?

They pair directly with the HE, you may have to change the driver though if it shows up as "device". Yeah it's Zigbee so won't work to repeat to your Z-Wave plug. That's why I recommended 2 of them assuming the zigbee device would have a similar issue based on what you were saying about range. Zigbee operates at a higher frequency so can be more sensitive to range issues.

I just ordered 4 because I have an HA addiction apparently.

Good point. However, I do need to build up my z-wave network. I'm hoping adding some outdoor outlets (z-wave) will allow it to shoot to the far backyard pool plug. I hope it can reach. It's only 70 feet to the back based off where one of the outdoor plugs will be.

You have to be careful about exceeding the # of hops devices go through in order to function. Z-wave has a max of 4 I think.

Another thought would be to have another HE hub to cover the outdoor devices. If you have a pool shed or someplace you could put it in there. The only issue would be getting a wired ethernet connection to the HE. If no direct wiring you could try some powerline adapters. The other advantage to having a wired connection out there is you could use mesh wifi and wired backhaul to really juice your wifi out by the pool.

I do not want to drag you down the rabbit hole of HA device addiction  ... I have 3 hubs (2 for the house and one for dev) and some others have more.

Here are some (US) powerline adapters..

or this older one which I've used:

That's not a bad idea.

I'll first focus on getting connectivity to upstairs. This is the problem area in my house. It has been for anything wireless.

Then I'll put an outdoor plug on which is actually closer to the hub.

For my house I ended up with a hub in the basement serving the basement and first floor and a hub on my second floor serving the second floor. Things have been very stable so far. My original issue causing me to seek this solution was difficulty with a Yale lock in the basement. Other people have also added a 3rd hub to handle all the cloud apps and custom interactions and not pair any devices. I may end up doing this with my dev hub as well.

Wow... I feel like a slacker now with my one lonely, little hub. Granted, my house is only a single story, 1200 sq ft cracker box.

Oh I thought I was good but there are some high rollers here and I realize I have much more to learn and probably spend... DONT ever look at the Lutron stuff if you know what's good for you.

Have you thought about getting a mesh Wifi to help with that?

I have no idea what you are talking about...

Mind me asking, how big is your house in total. Including all floors?

WARNING

that Lutron bridge is the wrong version. :frowning:

You must have the PRO version to work with Hubitat.
