I have screen shots to attach but they won't attach. Looking this up there may be a setting that needs to be adjusted by support: "unlocked the spam protection for your account." Platform version 2.3.9.201 Hardware version C-8 Pro
Long time vera lite user forced to migrate and start fresh (old hub no longer accessible or supported by casa verde, unable to remove all my zwave devices from that hub... )
Up and running with Hubitat however I must be doing something wrong. Goal is to activate two scenes by time (simple rule) and button on dashboard,
#1 why do both scenes show "not set" after I've successfully captured both several times? Are my setting correct?
#2. Scenes come on and shut off at 2AM on the evening scene but the landscape scene is on longer than sunrise. I tried 60 and 30 offset then switched to -60 and -30... Goal is "off" at 30 minutes before sunrise What am I doing wrong?
To post pictures, forum users need to join the owners group (Hub owners - Hubitat). It's a simple spam protection thing that Hubitat implements on its forum.
I'm not a group and scene user. With that said, I'll take a shot at it.
I'm pretty sure this just means that the scene is not on. Does your app page say "On" next to the scene when its activated?
You would want -30 in the offset to indicate 30 minutes before sunrise. Positive numbers add time; negative numbers subtract time is how I keep it in my head.
Thanks for the quick reply, No it says "off". Still confusing to me, but as long as it held the scene settings originally captured, that's all that really matters. I'll leave it at that for now.
I'll adjust the simple rule to -60 to see if the lights shut off before it is daylight ...
What happens when you click the Green activate box in the first screenshot? Does it set the lights accordingly and change it to "Scene is On"? Personally, I use Room Lighting which can combine both Groups/Scenes and Simple Rules into one app.
It works, Green "activate scene" turns scene on properly, and yellow "turn scene off" shuts it off properly.
Am I doing this wrong (or making it more difficult) by creating scenes, picking devices, capturing settings then separately adding automation like timers based on simple rules?
My whole, scheme (at this stage) is to re-automate my home after losing access to vera hub with a dashboard to manually turn on / off any device or scene created and separately timed operation of any scenes I create like the current evening scene. I'll need a late night screen (lower dimmer settings) and a "all lights off" / "all lights on" scene that my wife can easily use... Should I be using a different approach than scenes controlled via simple timed rule?
Not necessarily. With Hubitat, you'll find there are several different ways to accomplish the same tasks. Room Lighting replaced Groups and Scenes. G/S is designed to be more of a basic app, while RL handles significantly more uses.
To show what I mean, here is screenshot of RL that simulates your Evening Lighting Scene using my devices:
The lights will automatically do their thing starting at 30 minutes before Sunset and turn off at 2:00am if I do nothing. The Activator Device is something that allows me to manually set the table or turn off the table and can be placed on a Dashboard if desired.
Just to add to @JB10 's excellent explanation re RL, it not only replaced Groups and Scenes, it also replaced the Motion Lighting App, so within an RL setup you can also configure motion-based activation settings as well as scheduled one's. Plus there are other triggers as well, like switches, contact sensors and changes in mode.
Thanks guys, I'm slowly plodding along. To be clear, I want to create scenes that start stop at preset times (5PM-2AM or sunset to sunrise). I also want to over ride (off if on and vice versa) each scene at the iPad I've mounted on the wall. Basically a manual scene off/on. I'll frinally start my 1st RL now...
