New set of Sylvania Lightify bulbs not remembering color when powered off and on

I installed a set of Sylvania Lightify recessed bulbs in my den 2 weeks ago. They're working great. I recently installed the same bulbs upstairs in my kitchen, and set them up in Hubitat the exact same way with the exact same settings. When I turn off the wall light switch, and back on, it forgets the color it was and comes on as the default warm white. The downstairs bulbs don't do this. What am I missing? I can't figure out why these new identical bulbs won't remember their color after turning off power.

EDIT: I just noticed my downstairs lights are Sylvania SMART+, and the new upstairs lights are Sylvania Lightify. I believe Lightify is the older stuff right?

This is never going to work correctly, all zigbee and zwave bulbs are designed to be left powered up all the time and controlled via their radio commands, they aren't designed to have their mains power controlled by a switch.

My first set of lights, the SMART+ set, works perfectly fine like this using a main wall switch. I don't have the Sylvania hub to update the firmware, but one is on the way. The box for the older Lightify doesn't show compatibility with other hubs. I assume the older Lightify isn't able to do this. Wonder if a firmware update will work or should I swap them for the SMART+ to match downstairs?

Don't control them with a light switch, it will cause you nothing but issues down the road.

None of these bulbs were designed to operate this way.

According to Sylvania's Lightify website it says "Yes. When operating LIGHTIFY components using a normal light switch, the lamps behave as standard LED lamps. After switching on via the "off/on" network, they switch on at 100% again in warm white (2700 Kelvin). If lamps are switched on and off via the app, the lamps switch on in the previously selected mode."

The SMART+ remembers the settings, but Lightify does not, even though they are nearly identical. Hubitat shows manufacturer of the SMART+ as LEDVANCE, but the Lightify as OSRAM... I may just return the Lightify bulbs and swap to the SMART+.

Do you have any zigbee sensors? If you do, you probably won't for long. Cutting power to these bulbs could cause other devices repeating through them to become unreachable.

No. I simply bought these to have the choice of warm white, cool white, or RGB when I wanted. Nothing is automated nor will be. I think the Hubitat is too much for me, in this regard, actually.

With Osram bulbs, you might actually have better luck if you do power the bulbs off. Forever.

Yup... Hubitat is a smart home hub not a light hub.

I think the osram hub and it’s native app probably works best if that’s all you plan to use the bulbs for.

But using the switch to turn your bulbs off will prevent you from using them with any app.

I believe so as well. I JUST began upgrading my home with smart devices and didn't want to have a bunch of different types of hubs, so I tried the Hubitat. The setup and dashboard UI is an absolute pain for the family. I may swap out for a SmartThings because I may TRY a little automation, something as simple as turning on light strips between 4pm and 10pm at night, nothing too advanced.

I understand turning the switch off prevents me from using the app. 99% of the time, I just want a simple on/off because I don't change colors often. And when I'm on the couch, I'd like to be able to just yell at Google to dim or change colors. No automation.

Regardless, I do believe these are very different bulbs. Different firmwares, different manufacturers. SMART+ works great with remembering the colors using an on/off switch. Lightify does not. I'd like to keep everything matching. Amazon sent me these when I bought the EXACT same product, so not sure why they sent different ones.

Probably two versions of the device with the same product SKU.

Sylvania, LEDVance and Osram are all the same company. Sylvania is the NorthAmerica brand, Osram is Europe and LEDVance was a short time when they tried to consolidate their naming convention. Lightify and Smart+ are also the same light, again they renamed Lightify to Smart+. It may be a firmware issue.

I'll wait until the Sylvania hub arrives to try and update the firmware of them all. Hubitat cannot update firmware, correct?

The newer Sylvania Smart+ have an entirely different SOC and I have been very happy with them (after updating the firmware). The Lightify gateway can be purchased on amazon or for around $15 if you want to update or just use smart switches and no other automation. The lightify 4-button switches work very well with these and link directly to the bulbs, so they don't need the gateway to function after setting up the switches routines. BTW, the older Lightify bulbs are terrible and have no recent updates. I hope you sent them back because they will not update to match the new ones since they have a completely different chip inside.

If they updated the Smart+ line I was unaware of that. There was a point in time when Lightify and Smart+ were the same. They just rebranded them.

LEDvance was spun off from Sylvania/Osram and is now the manufacturer of the smart+ lights. A different company makes the SOC in the bulbs, but I can't remember the name. I have around 55 of these and thankfully only 2 Osrams left to die, although it probably won't matter now that I have a hub with only lights on it.
I remember a time when I was getting some of both (about 2 years ago); probably using up inventory.

Correct, they spun off the residential lighting division under LEDVance. My understanding was they were still owned by Osram of Germany. If they sold them after that I was unaware.

They're owned by a chinese company now.

On the Amazon product page it says: "Please be advised of our new name and packaging design. The product packaging you receive may vary and you may receive a product labeled as either LIGHTIFY or SMART+"..... However it is clearly not just a product relabeling. I'm going to see if they'll swap and ensure I get the SMART+ kit.

These bulbs are on several switches. I'm not planning to buy several smart switches for all these bulbs when the downstairs SMART+ bulbs work fine on a basic on/off switch.
