I've started my home automation journey and purchased a hubitat hub.
All very exciting, but...
I've tried setting it up yesterday and all went well, but I wasn't able to access the hub as it was asking for me to add a device ( Skipping tutorial didn't work ) - fair enough I thought, but because I didn't have any devices I waited until they arrived.
Today, my first Sonoff temp/humidity sensor has arrived.
I've paired it and it got detected, assigned to a room etc. - excellent.
Here is where my problem is... despite the hub being detected and a device added, I still can't get past the "help wizzard" as every time I press the "exit to hub" button, the screen flashes and nothing happens?
Since typing, I've tried to "add another rule" in hope of getting past that screen, but all I see now is...
just a blank screen.
When pressing the "x" for exit, a pop up message comes on asking if I want to skip the tutorial. When I press "yes", the screen flashes and returns toe exactly the same state.
Your hub has to be connected to your Internet router. Normally, this is done by connecting an Ethernet cable from the hub to your router. Routers typically use DHCP to assign IP addresses to each device on your local LAN. However, this can make it difficult to locate the hub when you need to access it. Every time your router reboots, it can assign a different IP address to the hub. Thus, it is best to go into the configuration settings for your router and set a fixed IP address for your hub and other critical home automation devices so they can always be found at the same LAN IP address. This is done be reserving a specific IP address for the device. You will have to check your router operators manual for specific instructions on how to do this.
Once you have a specific address assigned, you access your hub using the URL
"http: "ip address of hub". For example, my hub has an IP address of 192.168.1.44, so I reach the hub by entering "http://192.168.1.44" in my browser's search bar.
That should take you directly to the main access screen for the hub.
If you do not know the IP address of your hub, try entering "findmyhub.hubitat.com" into the search bar of your browser (Chrome and Firefox browsers are recommended). This should locate your hub and provide a button allowing you to connect to the hub. Be sure to write down the IP address of the hub so you can use that to set a static IP address in your router.
Also, and this is important, there's an update to the Z-Wave firmware. This update must be installed as a separate step from the "Z-Wave Details" page. Once you do get past the tutorial, you access the "Z-Wave Details" from the Settings menu:
Then
The see if there is an update firmware button at the top of the page. Its missing in my screenshot since I've already done the update:
Hey, thanks for the reply!
It'll probably take me about 12 years to sort, but I will give it a go
Now because you said all of this, something else crossed my mind...
I am in UK, with Internet provided by SKY... However, I use Deco S9 for my Wifi mesh.
I've plugged Hubitat to the Deco, but currently they are operating as AP only and the Sky router is managing the IP addresses etc.
Do you think I should connect directly to the original router instead?
Yes, I believe some can have issues with mesh setups, more so when communicating with other hubs between mesh AP's (or whatever the term is). I think there was a thread where someone was having issues finding a Harmony hub communicating with a different mesh AP. May not be the problem here, but worth ruling it out if you can for now.
Hub is running the latest firmware ( updated as part of the initial set up )
When I go to find my hub, I find the icon of my hub which has an option to "connect to hub"
When I click on connect, I get the blank screen i mentioned earlier
( Sorry, won't let me post link/screenshot )
I've connected the hub directly to the LAN on my Sky router, with no change at all.
P.S
I've never been able to "complete" the set up... it was always a case of either having to add a device, rule... then another device or exit.
First, thank you for chiming in so quickly to help another user.
I have flagged your post because it shows the hub ID, which is unique to your hub. If the screenshot is of your active hub, you may want to hide the id.
Welcome aboard and sorry for the confusion. I updated your account, so you should be able to upload pictures now. Mind sharing what browser are you using?
Thank you for the details. We are investigating the problem with "Getting Started" process, as for some reason it did not work as intended. However, I can confirm that your hub has been set up and registered correctly. There was no problem with your network that I can see, nor with the hub itself, so you didn't need to go through the trouble of powering on/off, soft reset from the diagnostic menu etc.
However, what is perhaps worth mentioning is that I've been through the set up process, logged in and updated the firmware ( as requested during the set up ).
When I type the Hubitat address into my browser ( to access the hub ) I see this:
From here I can add a device ( successfully ) - added a sonoff temp/humidity sensor which seems to have paired, been assigned a name, room etc.
Other than to "skip this step" there are no further options to get past this screen.
When "skip this step" or the "x" in top right corner is pressed, the page kind of flashes, but remains the same ( please see the video I uploaded in previous post ).
This screen is the furthest i've come with hubitat and never been able to see the page from your last screenshot.
Go to http://hubs.ip.address.here/hub/edit (http://192.168.0.126/hub/edit if the IP in findmyhub screenshot above is correct), click on Hub Details and enter some latitude/longitude. Anything other than zeroes for both should take you out of the endless onboarding loop. We'll have a permanent fix shortly.
I don't blame you that you are lost. In your effort to get started, you performed a Soft Reset, so you may also need to restore a backup to get back the devices you've previously added.
We are stepping through the process now, to see where we can improve the experience for users who end up in your situation. Unfortunately, being the first user who performed these steps out of order, you get the inconvenience of "first timer" Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I am an electronics /gadget freak. I'm sure you nerds can relate. Anyway I have never, and I mean never seen such a responsive company/forum/users in all of my 20+ years of being a tech nut. This HE staff/community is really amazing.
