I'm on the uphill side of this learning curve.. anyway, I have a Philips Hue starter successfully connected to my HE. Everything seems to work - schedules and voice commands via Echo. Feeling bold, I bought a four LZW30 on / off decora style switches. I replaced my old X-10 switches with them, and followed the QR link to Inovelli's site to connect them to my HE. I used their supplied "driver code" link: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/InovelliUSA/Hubitat/master/Drivers/inovelli-switch-lzw30.src/inovelli-switch-lzw30.groovy and got them to appear in HE's device list. But nowhere else. Echo didn't find any new devices when instructed, either. Poking around, I saw some mention installing a child driver. So, I got the driver and loaded it on one switch - like I was instructed on the Inovelli link. I the 4 switches and the child listed in my driver's code window
There are no further steps shown on Inovelli's site and I haven't seen how I can control them. It seems I need some sort of app.. but I'm not sure. I don't want to muck around in settings when I'm unsure of what they do. I'm hesitant to add more child drivers as they didn't seem to "do anything". Any help would be appreciated!First, it looks like you have four instances of the LZW30 switch driver installed. There is no harm in this, but you might as well delete the extra three (which won't matter if you're not using any yet; it won't let you if you are, so you could keep that one then).
It's not clear to me where your problem lies. Your screenshot above is from the "Drivers Code" screen and does not actually show that you've added the switches to Hubitat, just that you've installed their custom driver that will help it work with all the features it supports (it's likely the Generic Z-Wave Smart Switch driver would work just as well). If you haven't added the switch itself to Hubitat yet, that's the next step. Go to "Devices" (on the left), then click the "Discover Devices" button in the top right, choose "Z-Wave," click "Start Z-Wave Inclusion," then follow the directions for your switch to put it in pairing/inclusion mode (on the Red Series, I think it's tapping the config button three times; I'd guess it's the same for the Black). Hubitat should discover it and finish initializing it within a minute or so. If not, try again, but consider doing an exclusion (use the other button and see the switch's manual) in between just in case.
If you do have the switch added to Hubitat, it sounds like you're also trying to integrate them with Alexa. Do you have the Alexa skill for Hubitat set up yet? If not, follow these directions in the docs: Amazon Echo Skill - Hubitat Documentation
Definitely don't add more child drivers or any more instances of the driver. One is enough. I don't even think you need the Child Switch driver for the Black series (on the Red, it's how they implemented easier access to some features like LED notifications), but it can't hurt to have.
Good luck!
Hi - thanks for the reply. I didn't think I needed to add the driver in for each of the 4 switches, but when I couldn't add the second, I thought I ought to try it. Inovelli never said I needed only one all - nor did they say I needed one for each. It turns out it was a coincidence that I was unable to get it to be detected with the driver loaded a second time. Here's my device page:
The switches are there.. but I have no way to manipulate them. I do have the Amazon skill installed:
I didnt think I needed the child skills - but since I wasn't seeing what I hoped / expected, I figured I'd try it. I would prefer to delete the 3 additional switch drivers and child driver if I don't need them.. it seems that you feel they aren't needed. How do I go about creating schedule and enable voice control via Echo? Thank -you- !
For voice control, add the new switch devices to the Alexa skill as I linked to above. For scheduling, I'd recommend the Simple Lighting app, which you might be able to figure out on your own but also has documentation in the same place I linked to above.
You can delete the extra drivers from the "Drivers Code" section--if one is in use, it won't let you, so no worries there. That being said, it's harmless either way.
If you get a chance take a look at the DIY Smart Home Guy on YouTube. He is now using Habitat Elevation as his main smart hub, and has a few recent videos of setting the Inovelli Red series switches. I know you have the Black series, but It still might help answer a few question you might have.

Two-minute Tip - How To add Inovelli Device Handlers on Hubitat Elevation
Actually, you don't currently have the "Amazon Echo Skill" installed. You have the old, deprecated "Amazon Echo App" installed. This old integration is still provided for users in countries that the Amazon Alexa Hubitat Skill is not yet available in.
I recommend that you
- remove the "Amazon Echo App" from your Hubitat hub
- on your mobile phone, fire up the Amazon Alexa mobile phone app, and remove any/all Smart Home devices that were discovered using the old Hubitat "Amazon Echo App". Do not remove the Philips Hue Devices assuming you enabled the Philips Hue Skill in the Alexa App on your phone before you ever had a Hubitat Hub.
- While still in the Alexa App on your phone, enable the "Hubitat Skill", sign in to the Hubitat Portal when prompted, and select your Hubitat hub. This will automagically install the "Amazon Echo Skill" app on your Hubitat hub.
- Within the "Amazon Echo Skill" app on your Hubitat hub, choose which Hubitat devices you'd like to be discoverable by Alexa. There is also a check box you can enable to prevent Hubitat exposing Philips Hue devices to Alexa. This is to prevent duplicate Hue devices from being discovered by Alexa (assuming you have the Alexa to Hue skill already enabled.)
Any time you add new devices to Hubitat that you want exposed/discovered by Alexa, repeat step 4 above.
Great! Got this working - thanks!
Thanks for the info! I'll check iout those links and DIY Smart Home Guy.
Thank you. I deleted the extra drivers.. things seem to be working fine. Next up, Geofencing and Life360!
