I am sorry about posting here, but I just received my Hubitat today and I´m having trouble getting anything to work. I guess I do not understand some basic principles.
Some background, I have been running a Fibaro Homecenter 2 for some years now, all z-wave devices and want to switch to HE. So right now I have a more or less running Smarthome System and wanted to move devices from the old system to HE bit by bit.
I am not sure if it is even possible to run 2 Systems at once. Of course I have excluded the devices in HC2 and included them into HE. Right now my Device List shows two Fibaro Multisensors and one Fibaro Switch, the Fibaro Switch (module that is usually used to make regular Wall switches smart) has some (dumb) LED lamps connected. In the past I have used a (dumb) Wall switch, connected to another Fibaro Switch to toggle/dim those lamps. So far so good. For now, I would be happy to be able to switch those lamps on via the HE dashboard.
In the HC2, after including a device, the options are directly there, so in the device manager, I have the option to switch on the light, dim them and so on.
In HE, I have a list of devices but can´t do anything with them, I have added a Dashboard and picked the Switch template (I also tried the bulb template). Clicking on the Tile in the Dashboard doesn´t do anything.
So I hope you have some pointers on how to troubleshoot my situation. I am not entirely sure if the inclusion even worked properly. The Multisensors should send several parameters (Temperature, Lux) but I can´t see any in the Devices tab.
This particular device is a relay on my attic exhaust fan.
If I want to test it (I am suggesting that might be a way for you to get started and make sure things are working) I can click on the "On" and "Off" buttons and make sure the fan indeed turns on and off. Obviously you could do the same thing with a light.
It is... as long as both networks have enough z-wave repeating devices on them to keep both mesh networks strong while you move things over. A device can only be paired to one or the other at any one time though.
Hi Eric, thank you for your response. I have tinkered around a little on the device page and found the option to change the "Type". I scrolled down the List and found "Fibaro Switch". Now I have some more options, including buttons for On and Off. Unfortunately clicking on those isn´t accomplishing anything.
For the Multisensors I did the same and under Current States they both show "motion" and one is showing "illuminance". Motion seems to be working, its switching from "inactive" to "active". I had a look through the settings and found that temperature was set to off. I changed that parameter and now I get a temperature reading from the sensor. So far so good.
Hi Brad, maybe that (weak signal) is the reason, why the lamps are not switching on, but the distance between the HE and the switch is not that far. Will try if one of the multisensors is working when I move it to the switch.
When you change the device type (which changes the driver - which is sometimes necessary) you may need to press the Configure button on the device page to get the device to pick up all the settings from the driver.
Take it slow and experiment with small things until you get comfortable (that's my advice for what it's worth).
@Eric : I tried clicking on the "Configure" Button, but again nothing happened. I also reset the type to Fibaro Switch and saved the Preferences, then clicked on "Configure" again. No Luck.
I moved one of the Multisensors to the Switch and it works just fine, so I guess it shouldn´t be a network problem with the switch.
Another thing, I am from germany and therefore changed my temperature settings to Celsius in the Settings Tab. But the Temperature is still showing in Fahrenheit, even on the Dashboard Tile.
Regarding the Switch, I will try another exclusion/inclusion next.
Well, as the saying goes, "for most IT issues, the problem is situated in front of the computer". Same in this instance. I forgot that the module that I was using for those LEDs is a dimmer, not a switch. Therefore the switch driver obviously won´t work. Changed it to dimmer and On/Off buttons are working.
Thank you guys for your help, I added another Temperature Tile for the 2nd Multisensor and this one is showing celsius. Tried deleting the other one and making a new one for it... still Fahrenheit... weird.
Just wanted you to know that often hitting Configure may not cause much in the way of visible updates to the Device page. Configure initiates a communication w/your device to query capabilityes/attributes, but you may or may not see much update immediately on your screen. (Doing either a browser refresh, or clicking on a "Refresh" button on the Device page if there is one may cause some content on the screen to update.)
Using the Configure button can be important after making a driver (aka "Type") change on the Device page, so definitely keep doing it if you change drivers for a device.
Oh, and it's also PEBCAK or PEBKAC:
Problem exists between chair and keyboard (or keyboard and chair)
Thx again, will try to keep that in mind. I am pretty proud of myself right now, I managed to use the Room Lighting app and configured automatic (motion) and switch-based activation and deactivation of all lights in the kitchen Took a while before I understood the difference between button and switch (the actual problem was that I didn´t see both options at once, due to the drop down menu, so I never realized that there IS a difference until I got desperate and went through all the options).
I am still pretty stumped though, why one of my multisensors is reporting temperature in Fahrenheit and the other in Celsius...
Congrats on your progress...things will get clearer as you go along, and lots of people here to help.
Did you hit Configure on both Device pages? Might help. And these are the same multi-sensor, using the same driver, using the same settings? Maybe post screen shots of the two Device pages...
Also go in the main hub settings page and make sure it's set to Celsius.
I would also advise for now you just add your devices to a room and then for controlling the lights you can use the hubitat app. The dashboard requires a few more steps so for basic control the app will suffice while your learning.
Hi, not sure If that was the reason, but I rebooted the Hubitat and now both sensors show Celsius, I guess the problem was, that the first one was included before I changed to Celsius in the Hub Settings.
