When we first setup the Hubitat it comes online with a DHCP IP address. During the setup does it save that IP as a static within the system? If not it should be noted that a DHCP reservation within the route needs to be setup.
The hub does use DHCP to get it’s local address. How that is handled in your network is a function of the router. If you ever lose it, that is if it’s local IP were to change on you, you can always find it by going back to portal.hubitat.com to find your hub.
I configured my router to assign a static address via DHCP to my Hubitat hub. I typically do this for any device in my house except pure client devices (like tablets and phones) as I like to know that addresses won’t move around.
When I did this to my Hubitat hub, it was after I had already done the initial setup and registration process. After rebooting the Hubitat Elevation hub, it was assigned the new static address by my router, but I noticed that it took a little while before portal.hubitat.com was updated with the new LAN address. Not a big deal as I just pointed my browser at the new address. I checked portal.hubitat.com again later and noticed it had been updated as well.
