I have ordered a C8 Europe version and it should be with me in 4-5 days.
It will replace a C5 (with Z-Wave dongle), that I thought had expired, but which was later found to have a defective PSU, and which is now working well again.
I only have Zigbee or Tasmota devices, so could someone point me in the right direction for transferring all functions from the old hub to the new one?
Alternatively, would there be a better way forward utilising both devices?
It was specifically mentioned in the livestream announcement that C-5 with the external dongles won't be compatible with the migration option. Looking at the support docs though, I think that is limited to specific dongles as long as you have Hub Protect. If you don't already, subscribing to Hub Protect will allow you to migrate with a lot less pain that rebuilding everything from scratch.

Another option is to leave your existing devices and rules on the C-5, as long as it keeps humming along, and use Hub Mesh to link the C-8 and add new devices and rules to the C-8. You can gradually move things over, but this would allow you to keep your functionality without being pressed to have to get everything done quickly.
See this page from the hub documentation:
C-5 external Zwave won't migrate, but the Zigbee should. Also don't need to subscribe to Hub Protect just to migrate (although I like it for other reasons), as the C-8 includes the migration as a freebie.
Thanks for this contribution, but is the migration freebie to the C-8, or from it to another hub? Perhaps both!
To the C-8 is the intent.
Does the C8 increase the number of zigbee devices you can pair directly to it?
no, its still 32. BTW, you want repeaters for any number of reasons, not the least of which they reduce the load on the hub...
That's a little disappointing. Why is the hub so limited on zigbee devices? I know repeaters can increase that number but 32 just seems low.
According to whom?
Am I correct in assuming zigbee devices >32 can be accomplished with the use of repeater(s).
That is correct.
Haha. You could have explained that this is a limitation to the zigbee protocol.
I could of but i didn't because it isn't...
Well CLEARLY I'd say me. That's why I said it "seems low". From what I understand, you can have many more zwave devices paired ( I think >200) . I have mostly zigbee devices. It would be nice to hear if it's not a limitation of the zigbee protocol why it's limited to 32
You can have hundreds of zigbee devices in a network, routers dont take a slot against the 32 and can typically handle 5 or more child devices each.
Over the weekend i built a test network with 87 zigbee devices on it.
