The issue I have is the WiFi part - where the gate is there isn't wifi range so it needs to be ethernet based.
I can do either PoE or Ethernet with separate power but not found a suitable product outside of the very expensive (for what it is and closed ecosystem) Ring Elite, poorly reviewed Fibaro Intercom / Doorbird.
Happy to have a separate system, just ideally one which works. Would like to do a cool thing like it appears on the TV when someone calls but voice goes through google mini etc, but mainly the functionality so it links into an app for when we're away from home
That seems to be what I've read too. And personally have avoided adding this at this time because no one has really found a great solution yet...
I thought there is one that works with the new Google Home hub, which if you have a google mini might be part of your ecosystem. So that you could see who was there and 2 way talk. Don't remember though. Maybe it was a nest? not sure.
EDIT: keep your eye on that site though...they keep reviewing them and testing them as they come out.
oops...well thats going to be hard. Maybe just have him build in a standard outlet box with a wire and CAT6 cable? Then you can put on top whatever you want?
found this for you:
pretty sure that's what you want. Black version. That was Oct 17th and he said 2 months...so...might be close!
It's available on his site, I've popped him an email a little while ago so we'll see!
You'd think a PoE doorbell wouldn't be that hard to find. Thought about trying to get a simple switch or something which then used the video feed but I think all that would take too long for what I'm trying to do.
I don't. The doorbell systems I really don't know a lot about. Just follow along the threads waiting to see something that looks like it will work for me and isn't a $300 doorbell! hahahaha
How easy is it to get a video stream up on a screen/iphone upon a trigger (such as a switch)
Not played around much yet, but thinking that would allow me to get a simple intercom rather than worry about the video aspect and then just bring up a camera view alongside if desired
Hi @jaedgar
I'm thinking of delving into the camera world and was wondering how/what you have ended up with in your set up.
I'm in the UK BTW and looking at some of the images in this thread I'm assuming you are as well.
Thanks.
