Nest Thermostat Not Refreshing Operating State

Has the API finally closed for Nest integration? I have been using the Nest Integration and App by David Kilgore (which has worked flawlessly) until this year. The issue is the state status will not update unless I refresh it manually at which point the rule triggers and other logic runs based on the state changes within the rule.

I see the Google SDM API (a sub-component) of the app is failing (see below). I have tried un-installing and re-installing. No luck. It the app no longer operable because of Google?

Have I once again been bitten by cloud based equipment?. I continue to phase out cloud devices. I know there are much better thermostats out there than Nest. I would still like to stay with Nest for now though if I can. If it is dead would you please confirm so and recommend others?

Thanks all,

This isn't a Gen 1/2 Nest is it? AFAIK, the API hasn't closed.

In any event, I would recommend ecobee thermostats as a replacement for several reasons:

  1. They work well with multi-stage equipment. I don't know of any z-wave or zigbee thermostat that works well with a 3H/2C system. In fact, the majority don't support multi-stage systems.
  2. They can be controlled locally, using Hubitat's HomeKit Controller integration.
  3. If you desire, they can be connected to ecobee's cloud. Connecting to the cloud doesn't eliminate their capacity to be controlled locally.
  4. If you connect to ecobee's cloud, there are third-party HVAC analytical tools that are useful to gauge system function and efficiency (eg. Beestat.io)

Many years ago, I had ecobee thermostats, and decided to replace them with a locally controlled z-wave/zigbee thermostat (Hubitat's homekit integration was not available then). I literally tested every z-wave and zigbee thermostat available that supported a 2H/2C system (couldn't find any that supported a 3H/2C system). None of them performed as well as the ecobee - either in terms of comfort, or in terms of time-of-system use.

When I moved 3 years ago, I decided to move back to ecobee thermostats. Haven't regretted that decision. Although I do like the fact that Hubitat's Homekit Controller integration now permits us to control these thermostats locally.

Thank you for you quick response. Very much appreciated. I am glad to hear the API is still an option.

It is definitely a Gen 3 therm. I just purchased them at the beginning of last year.

I will also look at the Ecobee equipment as well.

Enjoy your evening and thank so much for your time and insight!
