The Ecolink 2.5 has a jumper that can be set so that pets don't activate it. Mine always detects me, but never my dog. The battery lasts a really, really long time. On the down side, a little slower to react than the Iris 3326-L zigbee motion sensors.
Do you have it set to the 4 min or 5 second "refresh" time?
The Ecolink default reset time is 4 minutes. There is a jumper setting for test mode, which causes it to reset within just a few seconds, instead of 4 minutes. I think I recall someone saying they use test mode all the time, but obviously that will affect battery life.
I use the default reset time and the batteries are still going strong after about two years of use.
