I just bought a Philips Hue switch/dimmer and my goal is to set button 1 to turn some lights on and another push to turn off some different lights.
What's the best way to set this up on RM?
I'm not familiar with the hue dimmer specifically but the driver presents itself as a button (and I think it does) you may find the button controller built-in app more convenient for straightforward automations. It's pretty flexible and will save you some effort. You could also use a couple of the other automation apps (basic controller for instance) to do the same thing. Usually pretty self-explanatory.
You can absolutely do this with RM if you choose. The simplest way is to just use the two button pushes as trigger events in two separate RM rules, and turn the lights on and off accordingly.
And if you want to get really fancy... you can set up scenes, and allow each scene to be activated by a different button using any of the automation methods.

When you say "use the two button pushes as trigger events in two separate RM rules", do you mean to you the double tap action for this?
I just can't see an option to "re-use" the same button.
