Need help with GE Embrighten switch

I got a GE Embrighten switch for my detached garage. I cannot get it to pair. I have a repeater in there which responds to pinging. I got the switch to exclude once, and then include. I got the screen for the code to be entered but I couldn't get to the dialog box because it was offscreen on my iphone. Now i can't get it to respond at all. I've tried the 3 up 3 down reset, and the pull the tab and 10 up reset, but no joy. i've toggled the power too. Any ideas?

Did you see the led blink when you did the 3up/3down? It will blink when a factory reset is registered.

Also, you need to have the S2 code READY before pairing. In my experience (and I've paired a few dozen of S2 devices) you only have a few seconds to enter the code before it moves on/pairs differently.

try it without s2.. ie remove the checkbox.. i find it needs more range to do s2.. also use the airgap. as well to reboot the switch.. try an exclude first to see if it is in range.

Got the blink. Can’t get to where he code needs entered

Got the exclude. Not sure what s2 is

Could be the zwave radio is hung up. Could try shutting down gracefully, pulling power for 30-60s, and powering back and and trying again.

Also make sure you don't have ghost devices in your zwave settings as well. That can happen from a failed pairing. Search for ghost device on here, basically it will look like a device with no inClusters / no info in the zwave details page.

Oh. Haven’t gotten that far again

Killed a ghost device and tried no security. Have this

Now it appeared!

Thanks guys!

Node 0x0D sure looks like a ghost to me. Need to get rid of it.

I got rid of it once.. it came back, but I did a refresh or something and the switch appeared in my list. Go figure. Thanks

Isn’t Z-Wave a thrill? Are we having fun yet?

Yeah. Guy I used to work with told me “yeah, it’s plug and play”. Rrrrrrr

Lol. I’m in it now.

Just a comment that most of my z-wave problems disappeared when I stopped installing switches at their location and THEN attempting to include them, and instead went with:

  1. Hook up switch temporarily while within 5-10 feet from hub (yes, even if you use repeaters, which I think are a great idea). I created a receptacle plug for this and use wire ties to connect switches safely.
  2. Exclude switch. Twice. Yes, even if new.
  3. Include switch in network.
  4. Go install switch wherever you want it.
  5. Wait a day or two before relying on switch in network. The network will figure out hops but it takes time.

Anytime you cause a ghost, disconnect power to the device then remove it. It won't remove properly if there is power as the device is still pingable

Thanks. Next step garage door. :-0

For reference, I have installed a dozen so far of the GE/Jasco/Enbrighten smart in-wall switches and dimmers throughout the house. So far it's been the only Z-wave device I can reliability include in it's final location vs. bringing the device next to the hub for include.

Steps: Install switch > restore breaker > hit include on HE > press switch up once.

As someone else noted, make sure you have the S2 security code handy to immediately type/paste it in the box when it appears (or uncheck S2 auth and forgo code).
