Need a C8 subscription to finish Migration?

So I have a C7 with Hub Protect. So to migrate to the C8, I first do a backup to the cloud of my C7. Then, I plug in my new C8 and want to restore from my cloud backup. Don't I need a C8 subscription to access and restore from the cloud?

No. Not for migration.

To add to the above, any hub registered to your account can have a cloud backup from that same account restored to it (so that's why it doesn't matter for migration). What Hub Protect would give you is the ability to make cloud backups from this new hub, too, besides the extended warranty and whatnot that the service provides.

Bear with me. So I have a Hub Protect account on my C7. After doing the cloud backup, the C7 is powered down and the C8 is powered up. How does the Hubitat servers know who I am? I haven't yet gotten Hub Protect for my C8.

As long as you have registered the C-8 to the same account as the C-7 it will be able to find the C-7 cloud backup and restore it. Key is registering the C-8…

Register the hub under the same email that your c7 is registered to. The c8 doesn't require hub protect for the cloud migration. That said once everything is transferred, if you want to keep the c7 off or not have hub protect on it anymore. Cancel the subscription on it, email @bobbyd and he can put the remaining balance of the Hub Protect subscription on to the C8

Thank you. That explains it perfectly.
