Hi,
i have managed to connect my lights to hubitat, i can change the brightness and turn the light on and off via the app but how do i go about changing the colour of the light?

I connect my nanoleaf stuff directly to Hubitat via wifi not matter, the nanoleaf driver has RGB so you can do what ever colors or patterns you want.
What app? The Hubitat mobile app? If so, are you using the "Devices" tab? If so, for now, you'll need to use a dashboard or other solution to change color. (This is a lot of guessing, but without more information, that's all I can do. 
) Full control of all devices is not yet possible on this tab, though more features are being added over time. A dashboard, whether Easy Dashboard or Hubitat Dashboard (or any custom solution) gives you more flexibility -- especially the latter, but the former is, well, easier.
This doesn't work for their Thread devices -- but it would probably end up being the same as above anyway if the problem is what I suspect.
Nanoleaf essentials do both wifi and thread, they are also tbr's. But do not do matter over thread...(weird I know but they were clear with me when I talked with their support about it) You can connect them via thread to Homekit. Or straight up wifi to Hubitat.
Not the bulbs I have, which are Matter over Thread. 
But they do have a lot of models, and some may work differently.
Fair enough, I keep forgetting about those. Usually when I talk about nanoleaf it's the panels....
