My new c8 pro wont stay paired

I’m having a problem with my new habitat anything I pair to it pairs and then immediately is unreachable. I’ve tried pairing a zigbee lightbulb, a zigbee contact sensor, a Zigbe outlet and a zwave light switch. It won’t pair to the Z wave light switch at all. And everything else I pair to it just goes unresponsive. I thought at first that maybe my unit was defective so I had Amazon send me a new one and the new one is doing the same thing. I don’t understand what’s going on since I haven’t changed anything about the location or connections that I used with my old Hubitat. I decided to start fresh so it’s not bogged down by old settings or anything. And the contact sensor was a virgin device. It had never been paired to anything else before. I’m not the most tech savvy, but I’m not completely tech illiterate. I had paired dozens of devices to my old hub successfully with no issues. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on?

Some info to help us help you...

New hub model & current platform version?
Previous hub model & current platform version?

You refer to your "new Hubitat" - what hub did you have before you got the new one and did you use the Hubitat process to migrate everthing from your old hub to your new one, or are you trying to use the two hubs alongside each other?

Is the previous hub plugged in/turned on?

the new hub is a c-8 pro running 2.4.4.151. my old hub was a c5 that died a few months ago. its not plugged in or connected to the ethernet. it was on 2.4.0.144. i didnt migrate anything over because i wanted to start with a clean slate.

depending on the Zigbee device like tuya etc. many need to be removed and paired a second time till they work correctly . what does the driver details show as the driver for these devices

Thanks for the details.

Can you identify the device brands/models of the devices you're trying to pair? Z-Wave devices should be excluded before inclusion to ensure any info from previous use is cleared from the devices internal database. So for your Z-Wave device(s) that came from your old hub, make sure you first exclude them from your new hub (works even if they have never been on the hub) and then try to include them.

Zigbee doesn't need this extra step, just needs to be reset to pairing mode.

One common fix for paring issues (radio issues in general) is to shut down the hub, pull power for 30s, then restore power - that fully restarts the Zigbee and Z-Wave radios. Worthwhile to do that now to at least remove the potential for radio issues. You should also ensure that the antennas are both securely connected to the hub.

To add bit more color here, reset means factory reset... So you'll need to locate each device's manual to get the button-mashing sequence necessary to factory reset that particular device. Once reset, the device will be able to be paired again.

@danabw i tried a sengled zigbee bulb, zooz zwave light switch, iris 3rd gen outlet and an iris gen 2 contact sensor. I ran zwave exclusion before attempting to pair and i factory reset each device before trying to pair. Each pairing was within five feet of the hub.

I recommend rebooting the hub and selecting "rebuild database", to eliminate at least one possibility.

Have you tried the shut down/pull power/30s/restore power and try to pair again? If not, then give that a whilrl just to rule things out.

Also, you didn't mention it, but check the antennas are secure.

There have been some instances when Amazon will ship used devices as new. You may want to do a full reset on the hub to clear out any potential cobwebs, which is done from the Diagnostic Tool, at Settings>Diagnostic Tool. Then choose Advanced>Full Reset.

Has anything changed in your home network recently?

So some devices fail to pair at all, and other devices do pair, and they show up in the Z-Wave details page, they just don't work?

Can you attach a screencap of the Z-Wave details page?

i got it to work finally. i had to reboot the hub 3 times and it started working on the 3rd time

Happy endings are the best. Glad it's working for you now.

If you did the same thing 3 times before it began working (rebooting in this case), then I don't think rebooting was the solution to the problem. I think you just got lucky, and the problem is likely to return.

Before, you spend a lot of time building up your network, I suggest you shut it down, unplug it for several minutes, and see if it powers up normally.

I don't suppose that you tried any of the earlier suggestions that were given to you?

can you post your z-wave details page in its entirety? (Use windows snip) I suspect you have more issues.
