MultiSensor Options

Hi All.

What is everyone's favorite multi-sensor?

End game, looking for motion, lux, battery life and easy driver implementation. Intended use is setting accent lighting intensity based upon motion and luminance.

I am currently leaning towards Aeotecs trisensor, or Zooz 4 in 1; links below. Any others, or better options i am missing?

ZOOZ Z-Wave Plus 4-in-1 Sensor ZSE40 VER. 2.0 (Motion/Light/Temperature/Humidity) Amazon.com

Aeotec TriSensor, Z-Wave Plus S2 Enabled Zwave Motion Sensor, Temperature, Light Sensor, Work with Zwave Hub Smartthings 3-in 1 Security System, Battery Powered https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GP3ZCYD/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_HNCJKHCNMCQ7M0VJSYAQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The Zooz 4-in-one have a dubious track record, though supposedly their new version doesn't wreak the havoc that previous models do. Mine all went into the dustbin of history, to borrow a phrase from Leon Trotsky.

I have a lot of Aeotec trisensors and I am very happy with them.

I have and really like:

Hue Motion Sensor
Zooz Z-Wave Plus 4-in-1 sensor ZSE4.0 (700 series on C7, 500 series on C5)
Inovelli 4-in-1 (Don’t think they sell it anymore)
Aeotec Smart Things Motion Sensor (But it doesn’t report Illuminance…)

Out of stock but still sold when they have them…

I have had good luck with Zooz's Q sensor, ZSE 11. I have it powered by USB, so not sure on the battery life.

Aeotec has the new Multi Sensor 7 out. There is a thread here on the forum where a member is doing some beta testing.

I have 3 of the MS6s and I like the look of the recessor, and the option to power via USB. There aren't quite as fast to report as my Zigbee motion sensors.

I had 3 of the Zooz ZSE40's and encountered all of the reported issues with them when I migrated to a C-7 hub. They now sit on a shelf.

If you go with the Zooz, make sure to calibrate them. I have two ZSE40-700's calibrated to the same digitial thermometer/hygrometer. These offsets were needed for mostly accurate readings:

  1. -0.7 degrees and -4.6% humidity
  2. -2.0 degrees and -9% humidity

As a general rule, sensors go with Zigbee. My opinion is that Zwave is ill-suited for sensors in general, except maybe a basic contact sensor. Once you get into a multi-sensor, the traffic is just too much for Zwave.

I like their switches, but I agree with the above. You said it more diplomatically than I might have.

Do you have a preferred device or brand you use for calibration? I think I need to buy one but I am sure there will be thousands to pick from when I go searching. Don't need a $100 meter or anything but something that works good enough.

Funny you should ask. I have several AccuRites I've been using for years, like this one.

The specs are +/- 2% RH -- doesn't seem great. Checked several weather station sights this morning and couldn't find anything better, even at >$100. Didn't spend a lot of time on it since I had to get back to work (then got distracted helping you on the driver  )

When I first looked into home automation, ZWave+ was the only wireless protocol available that hadn't been hacked, so that's what I used. Your comment is relevant - I've seen it several times in these forums. Now's a good time to reevaluate since I moved and left my whole home automation infrastructure in the old house.

[Man, I've been on here almost all day and have got to get back to work lol]

Zwave works great for switches and dimmers, and I would not hesitate one bit to use Zwave for that purpose.

I think there is a lot of merit to mixing and matching protocols, and letting the hub sort it all out.

Another vote to Hue Motion Sensor. I used to be a fan of SmartThings Multisensor - yeah, they´re great! -, but Hue is simply awesome: motion, temperature and luminance, all in one and working perfectly with Hubitat.

Not the smallest, but I love going a couple years between battery replacement. They are also the fastest sensors I know of for dwell times down to 10 seconds, which is probably related to the AAA batteries.
