Not to derail this topic too much, but elements of this discussion sound eerily similar to the unsolicited binding discussed in thread below...
At the end of that thread, Maycock alludes that the behavior may actually be intentional, and I'm hoping @mark.amber can shed additional light on all that sometime soon...
