Well I have the Meross Matter MSS315 working so HE can switch it off/on(using the Generic Matter Outlet driver) and Alexa can also control it. However these devices are also energy monitors but it isn't reporting back anything. Under current states Power is listed. If I connect the device to the android Meross app the energy usage is available but then I can't get HE to see it. It would seem if I have my cake I can't eat it! Matter was supposed to sort all these issues I thought! What to do?
I think the Matter spec now supports power reporting, but that hasn't trickled down to all platforms yet.
Matter is very young in its evolution of capabilities (both what's available in theory and what's actually now available) -- it going to take a while (years?) before it all matures.
What's still unknown is how much capability manufacturers will make available via Matter and how much they'll keep behind their own app's walls. Just because a device could do a bunch of stuff via Matter doesn't mean the manu will let it.
In fairness, there are similar parallels is other protocols too -- Some Hue stuff is exclusive to the Hue bridge/app (or at least much easier to do there instead of outside it).
Do you see "0B04" listed with "inClusters" in the "Data" row of the Device Details table at the bottom of the device detail page? That is the Matter cluster for power reporting; if that isn't there, then it's likely that the device does not support this functionality over Matter (no requirement that it does just because it can) or maybe needs to be re-paired if this functionality was added via a firmware update sometime after the initial pairing. It's also possible it does this some other way, though AFAIK this would be the only standard way for power (watt-based).
Thanks.. make sense.. I looked again this morning and things are a little better from a while ago.. Device is now seen in Meross, Alexa and HE.. we have progress ..of course only Meross reporting on energy usage ..
