I noticed when I create a new motion lighting app, before selecting any options there is a "Delay off for 1 minute" that is already selected. Why is this option enabled by default?
Because the essence of Motion Lighting is to turn some lights on from motion, and then turn them off after some delay. The default delay is 1 minute. That shows up so that you don't overlook setting it or changing it.
Okay, yeah I was just wondering makes sense.
On a side note a possible feature request would it be possible to add the ability to set two different dimmers to two different level in Motion Lighting? In my master bath I have two lights I want to go on at different levels when motion is detected. I was going to do this in rule machine but I do not think it has the override level option unless this was added in RM 3.0?
There is no way we're going to make Motion Lighting any more complicated than it is now. You could use a Scene to get the other levels, while leaving the dimmers you need for override as dimmers. Or use two instances of the app.
While I understand that you do not want to complicate motion lighting more, then would there be a reason that the override level option could not be added to rule machine?
Override what? becomes the question. You could certainly make a rule that prevents another rule from turning something off that would turn off from motion going inactive. But at that point, you're better off just having a second instance of Motion Lighting.
I was referring to the override for dim level from the physical switch which is an option in motion lighting.
Yes, I understood what you meant. But I don't see how you think that is something that can be added to RM, or what it would mean. Please explain how override fits into RM?
In case like what I was trying to accomplish with setting two different switches to two different levels, which I can do in rule machine. But I would also want to ability to physically override the level when needed.
Figured I'd toss this in there just as an FYI.
I had a ML app that was behaving very oddly. It was only set to night mode but was acting during day(turning off the lights)
Then actually just this morning it wasn't firing at all. Mode was night. I triggered a multitude of motion sensors that are tied to it and saw all the logs for them show up...but nothing from the ML app, no logs, no events. (This was 4am when I got up for my daughter and I was frustrated, and kinda pissed, I had to walk through a dark house again) So I deleted and re-created it....boom...back to working again. So something definitely happened to it. I checked settings a few times and created the new one as a direct mimic to the old one, so the same settings as the old one.
