Motion Lighting not working correctly

Modes makes things much easier since you have Delay by Mode

I use modes for all of my automations that are not based on sunset or sunrise for anything. Don't restrict yourself on a certain time for things. You'll never get it right and the WAF will plummet when there's that one time she wants to stay up and read a book. I'm going to throw my two cents in here because I strive to have our house interact with us. Dinner/bedtime/wake up time are never the same in our house. NEVER. Why try to schedule things? Why not base modes on lifestyle? Here's what I mean:

I have automations to cover some of these, I'll touch on them briefly, but I don't want this to turn into bragging rights. There are other people doing the same things, but with different automations. There isn't a right way.

I have modified two cell phone chargers to trigger mode changes. The modes they control are quiet time, night, and one aspect of home. (quiet time to home)
My modes are quiet time, night, home, away

At night, we dock our phones on the modified chargers. 1 phone docked = quiet time
Quiet time: Bedroom lights only interact in dimmed blue. Lamps don't turn on in the bedroom and the hall light doesn't turn on. This is to keep the spouse acceptance factor optimal. The other person can move around freely with other lights in the house interacting as usual and also see to get to bed.
two phones docked = night
both of us are in bed. Everything non night light turns off. Vweeeew - None of the upstairs lights interact. the cabinet lights provide a night light dimming to 15% when idle and ramping to 50% when I get up and walk around at night. (It happens often). LED strips in the bathroom provide just enough light to keep an accurate aim.
Hubby gets up - 1 phone docked - quiet time again. All lights are going to function except for the bedroom lights again. Since I've been wandering around, I'm just getting good sleep when it's time for him to get up. (that's how it is)
I get up = home
all lights fully functioning as intended. No restrictions. Certain lights will resume as they're set to turn off after sunrise and back on just before sunset.
I just touched on what we have, but I base all of my automation on how we interact with our home. So that I don't have to make a special effort to flip a switch or make sure something is done because the lights aren't going to work after a certain time. That's frustrating. Just sit down in a room and figure out what you do and how to automate that. You can make that happen easily enough by just analyzing your habits a bit.
My overhead kitchen/dining only come on readily between 5 and 7 pm. But if we're in the room for anohter reason and we're active for more than 10 minutes, the lights will turn on because I assume that if I'm in there for that long, I'm doing something that requires more light. It's worked well. I plan on doing a write up at some point, but we're busy with remodeling projects so time has been limited. I hope this helps. I know it's wordy.
Stop trying to make things so mechanical and shoot for flexibility in your automation. Then you don't have to be so specific. Life isn't built that way.

Agree.. That’s why I use alexa for my mode changes.. Because they are different times...

You can also have sunrise/sunset or luminescence drive your mode as well. You just have to do it with Rule Machine or a custom app instead of mode manager. I use an outdoor lum sensor to drive my day vs night mode change.
