I was installing another Caseta switch today. I shut off the breaker (which also was the same breaker the HE is on) Installed the switch, turned the power back on, everything came back to life as expected within a few minutes, including my HE hub. Because of the power "outage", I had to readjust several of my lights again, so I went to my dashboard on my computer. I couldn't connect, but the main menu, apps, devices, etc. all worked fine. The only thing I couldn't access was my dashboard. I went to my iPad. No problem accessing the dashboard from there. Any ideas?
Is it possible that your computer was using a WAN Dashboard link, and your iPad was using a LAN Dashboard link? And your computer was using LAN IP for Main menu, etc.? Your router might have gone down, and might not have been fully back up, or perhaps your ISP gave it a new WAN IP, and Hubitat cloud hadnโt realized that the WAN IP had changed?
Exactly how did your computer access the Dashboard? By a saved link from the Dashboard app? Or by the Dashboards choice in the upper left corner hamburger menu in the Main menu?
Just throwing out a possibility. I agree itโs odd.
Not a great idea to simply kill power to the hub. You can corrupt the hub database by doing this. Suggest the next time you need to kill a circuit the hub is on you shut the hub down first. Better for you in the long run.
To be honest I don't know. I'll have to do some research. I'm am a computer illiterate when I get much outside of the OS. I know when I access the dashboard it's by going to the Main Menu, then clicking the View all of your Dashboards box, then the one dashboard I have on the next page. It gives the IP of my hub/dashboards?local=true in the address bar, but when I click on the dashboard it does nothing.
found the dashboard in the cloud, so my iPad must be accessing the dashboard in the cloud. The local dashboard must be corrupted somehow.
It should just be a different link (and path) to the same dashboard . . .
I guess then the cloud path works, whereas the local path doesn't. Now I have to figure out how to get the local link working again.
Go to the Dashboard app, choose your Dashboard, LAN and WAN links are near the bottom for copying.
Just to rule out database corruption, make a backup (Settings, backup and restore), save to your computer, do a soft reset from the diagnostic tool, restore your backup.
Access the diagnostic tool at
http://yourhubIP:8081
You will need the MAC address to log in, best way is to copy it from Settings > Hub Details.
Making a backup prunes bad stuff out of the database.
And it would be wise to put your Hubitat hub on a UPS (uninterruptible power supply).
To make your life easier you should have a fixed IP for your hub
You can do that either on the router or on the hub. Hub is easier, built-in feature as of 2.2.5 release. Better to do it on the router, but harder as you'll have to look up 1) Does your router support seting fixed IP addresses - (almost all do), and 2) What are the steps on your router to set a fixed IP.
If you want to do it the easy way for now, you can do it in the Networking option in the Hub Settings. But if isn't too challenging, best to do it on the router.
I've got a fixed IP on my HE. Also on the Lutron Pro, and Philips Bridge.
