Monoprice motion sensors always inactive

Hi all,

I am having issues with 4 out of my 5 Monoprice motion sensors. They are always inactive. Only one of my sensors have shown active. I am sitting right in front of one and it is still showing inactive.

What can I do to fix this issue? I need to get going setting up my "alarm" and A/C rules, but the status of these sensors is always inactive.

Dashboard, or on the device's settings page?

What driver (device type) did they pair with? Are they all using the same one?

C7 hub? What hub firmware are you on? 2.2.4.148 is the latest.

Do you have repeaters, or line powered devices that act like repeaters in your mesh network?

To add to the above, what Monoprice motion sensor is this? They have two current offered, the 4-in-1 (PID 15902) and the plain motion sensor (PID 15271), plus at least one previous Z-Wave offering similar to the latter. I'm not a huge fan of other of these (or really any of their Z-Wave devices), but I had particularly bad luck with the latter. I've relegated mine to outdoor duty now where I don't care how slow it is or of it occasionally misses something, both of which it sometimes does in my experience.

I have both of these models and they are working for me on the latest 2.2.4 release (C7).
They are not the fastest (especially the 4-in-1 when joined with S0), but they do seem to function.

Troubleshooting tips:

  1. Enable debug logs for the device
  2. See if anything shows in the logs
  3. Check the events list for the device
  4. After updating preferences, wake up the device and see what shows in the logs

1.- Both
2.- The yare using the same. Pics attached: "Entrada" works fine, "Cuarto principal" does not.
3.- Hubitat elevevation? lol. Version is 2.2.3.142. I will update now. Unsure why the update just showed up.
4.- I have one Aeotec Range Extender 7. I did unplugged it and rebooted the hub and the problem perisisted.

PID 15271

This looks like the 15271 "Monoprice Z-Wave Plus PIR Motion Detector w/ Temperature Sensor" .
Please check that the device type (in Device Information section) is "Generic Z-Wave Motion/Temperature Sensor".

That should help. There were some bugs in 2.2.3 that were fixed in later 2.2.4 version for the generic motion drivers.

Isn't this S0, the worst way to pair things? Doesn't it have 3 times the overhead of other security.

Yes, but this is an older z-wave plus device that only supports S0 security, so there isn't an easy way to disable it.
(The z-wave spec appears to require that S0 be offered and used if the controller and device support S0 [and the device doesn't support S2])

Ah, still learning the ins and outs of the C7 and the new Zwave features. Thanks!

This seems to have fixed the issue. Thank you very much!
