I have a monoprice contact sensor (https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=122&cp_id=12212&cs_id=1091804&p_id=24259) that will loose connection to the hub. Its status goes inactive and last activity is whenever it last reported. What can I do to re-establish connection without removing it and rediscovering it. I usually get about a week or so out of it then it no longer talks. So U reset it and redicover it, which it finds it right away - then I have to recreate my rules. Any advice?
Don't delete the device from HA. Just reset it and let HE rediscover it. This way you won't have to recreate the rules. I have to do this on occasion with one of my Lightify bulbs.
This is a Z-Wave device so it's not as easy as Zigbee where you can reset and rediscover. Resetting a Z-Wave device without exclusion first will give you ghost device in your Hub.
This sounds like you have a Z-Wave mesh issue. Try doing a Z-Wave repair and if that didn't help then maybe get a repeater or relocate your Hub.
Sorry to bring up an old post, but this may be helpful for anybody searching with the same problem...
I have the same contact sensor and I run into the same problem every few months it seems. I didn't find a way to easily replace or re-discover the device, but there's a manual work-around that is a little easier than updating all the automation rules associated with the device.
- Include the contact sensor as a new device (exclude as needed).
- Make note of the device network ID.
- Remove the second/newly discovered device.
- Edit the original device entry and change the device network ID to the newly discovered ID.
I've only done this once so far, but the original device started updating as normal, and I didn't have to update all of my rules.
@rockrerun's solution worked for me! that's a big time saver. thanks!
