Mode Manager debugging

I'm troubleshooting why my switch that triggers setting Mode to Day sometimes also then triggers it back to Night mode. The logs show that it is caused by return from Away which I don't understand since it is coming out of Night mode, not Away mode. Here's what the log shows:

My Mode Manager setup looks like this:

Am I using the "Switch to Return From Away" setting incorrectly?

I removed the three switches from the "Use Switch to Return From Away" and the problem went away, but from what I can tell this should not have made it fail, so I think there is a bug here. I was leaving Night mode with a press of the Daytime Mode switch which should have no bearing on this setting. Tagging @bravenel just in case this really is a bug instead of my misuse of the option - but I can't see it.

The "help" says this:

So my intent was to allow me to press any of these three switches to exit Away mode, which shouldn't cause NIght mode to trigger. By the way, my 4 virtual switches are all set to auto turn off after 1 second.

Please show the entire Mode Manager setup page.

The setup you showed is contradictory. You shouldn't be using a single switch for both Return from Away and to set the mode. Which one prevails? Return from Away applies to Time Settings.

In what you just quoted, you missed:

So if you aren't using Time Settings, you shouldn't use Return from Away.

Got it - here's the rest of the setup:

I am using time settings, but I also use buttons. So I guess I should just not use the last option since I don't really need it.

I think I'm all set now with removing the last row of options. I also removed the last row on the presence table since it causes a similar conflict. But I still think there is some type of logic flaw here. Even with the conflicting table there is no reason why a switch that turns on Day mode should also trigger Night mode just because both are listed in the option for departing Away. It's an academic point - the broader point is the instructions should be clear in advising people not to use both methods "just to be sure"

The Return from Away is redundant to have a switch for each mode.

Understood - suggest the documentation be updated to advise people of this. Many thanks
