Mobile app requires manual Geo location updating

Whenever I return to my house or leave my house the Geo location information never updates automatically. I must do it manually. I have already allowed the app to always have access to my location information in my iPhone X

I do not have an iPhone but on an Android you have to also disable battery optimisation for the app.

I’ve recently switched from Life360 to the HE app to track presence and it worked fine for the first few days but yesterday failed to detect when I arrived home. About 10 minutes later I opened the dashboard to see the presence status and it was “not present” and then opened the app. As soon as the app opened it updated the status to Present. Seems intermittent for me at the moment. Given the app is very new I’d just keep providing the feedback and I’m sure the HE team will get on top of it.

This has been my experience as well. It works intermittently, no rhyme nor reason.

Mine had been working fine since the initial release of the app, then I noticed the same problem yesterday or so. I tried the usual tricks: disabling location for the app then re-enabling it, re-selecting my location and mobile device in the app settings, and seeing if a "manual" sending of a geo event in the app worked. The only thing that "worked" was the last thing, obviously only useful for troubleshooting and not a solution to the problem. But at least I know something works.

It occurred to me the I could also uninstall and re-download the app, so I did that this morning. I haven't left my house yet to see if that actually works.

EDIT: that looks like it worked for me (though I initially thought it didn't since I seem to have an issue where my HomeBridge device doesn't get an updated status, and since I was away that was the easiest place to look first).

Disable* battery optimisation...

Ah ha. Somebody spotted my deliberate mistake.
Yes. Definitely disable not enable battery optimisation. Oops.
I've amended my post above in case someone else reads it.
Thanks.

Must be for Android.

More location issues on my app all day yesterday and still this morning. When I launched the app today though it made me login again so while its not clear that it was recently updated, perhaps it was a login issue. Guess we'll see how it acts the rest if the day.

I also had to re-login yesterday but still issue persists.

This is a fail for me. Two phones, one on beta on not. The beta requires frequent logins but this pone was other wise reporting presence well until today when it ignored my comings and goings. My wife's phone, non-beta, has ignored its presence for the last week. No re-login required. Send geo event on both phones yields no location info in the general or device logs. Maybe I don't understand the purpose of send geo location. Guess I need to un-pause Life 360 for the time being.

I would not bet on one horse anyway, so I would keep life360 and use the combined presence app to use both.

For me (xiaomi pocophone f1) the battery optimisation did the trick. At certain android ROMs this is harder then others. I know Samsung tends to overule battery settings of user despite their choice. Though I must say, if life360 can do it, so should Hubitat eventually. So it might just be a matter of waiting a few updates to get it right. The app is of course pretty new and there are a few thousand different android devices on the market (not counting ROMs)

I forgot. I also locked the app from being removed from sleep state.
