When you start a new child and choose "use settings per mode" the Boolean slider disappears. So if you want to switch back to use the child without settings per mode it's impossible.
I believe that is intentional since the settings are expanded when it is selected. It would add a lot of complexity to remove the necessary settings that enabling that would entail. Maybe a disclaimer "This action cannot be undone."
