Migrating devices from water damaged hub

I just recently had a water valve burst and soaked my entire network rack. Had to replace everything, including my hub. Unfortunately, I did not have hub protection for this device. I just purchased a replacement (C-8 Pro). I found a local backup from years ago but it looks like nothing properly transferred over. Am I better off reseting the hub and repairing each device? I just want to make sure I do not have any interference, such as ghost nodes. Does anyone have any ideas of how I could make the transition easier? I had over 50 devices and complex rules that are going to suck to rewrite..

You may find it goes smoother if you just reset everything and start from scratch if your backup is that old.

Is the old hub compltely dead. Is there any chance to power it up and perform a migration backup. maybe try cleaning it in alcohol to see if it can come back to life. It can't hurt if it is out of warranty and such if for nothing else to siimply safe off a final backup.

I have tried exactly that. I think the radios have been fried. no communication with the hub at all; however, many of the automations were still running. My network is not even recognizing that it is still there.

So it won't work with wifi, or with ethernet? what hub version is your original one

My original hub was a C-8

Ok. so have you tried both wifi and ethernet?

yep

Did you try giving it a good cleaning with alcohol to remove anything that might be shorting out the boards and such. It would reall be best if we can get a migration backup in some fashion. otherwise you are probably best just to start over unfortunately. I would sugget setting something up to pull the backups nightly going forward. My unraid server runs a script that downloads the DB backup nightly. I can provide the script if you like.

If your automations are running, then one or both of your z-radios are still functional.

Can you do a network reset and then determine if the hub shows up on your router? BTW, what is the color of the hub's LED?

So I was at work when I posted this and thought about everything I did or didn't do. Apparently the only thing I didnt try was swapping the ethernet cord. So I did and.... it works lmao. Call me an idiot if you want. Now I have to return the hub I just bought..

AND start saving regular backups off the hub (or signing up for Hub Protect).

@DLHenderson889 - bear in mind that local backups do not cover the z-wave and zigbee radio databases.

Also, in the event you want to reconsider sending your C-8 Pro hub back, I want to mention that there are multiple new C-8 Pro specific integrations. In general, users have found that the faster CPU and additional RAM in the C-8 Pro makes for a better automation experience.
