Max Hops

I thought the max hops was 4, don't know how it has 6?

Seems like the DB shows not responding alot, then later, back to responding after a Z-Wave repair. All switches and Repeaters are working even though some show not responding in the Database from time to time. Is this 6 hops a fluke? Or something new with Z-Wave I didnt realize?

4 hops = 5 arrows.

Source, 4 hops, destination. total of 6 Node Numbers.

I don't understand....

The signal has to jump 5 times....Why wouldn't 5 arrows = 5 hops?

It's just how the terminology evolved.

The ZWave Routed Frame has a Source field, a Hop Count field, up to 4 hop fields and a Destination field. That's a total of 7 fields, with 6 of them being node numbers. A source, up to 4 hops, and a destination.

Zniffer creates a similar 'arrow connected' display:

Two arrows means one hop. You are welcome to call all of them hops. My only point is to align the terminology so that we're on the same page in a conversation. I imagine when I first saw that, I had a similar question, but now, I'm so used to the obscure terminology ZWave uses, I forgot to be confused. "Secondary" is another bizarre terminology in ZWave, for example.
