I have read so much but still have many questions. This one is I have a govee table lamp I commisioned thru alexa to pair with hubitat. Could T remove it from alexa now and it still work in HE? It is matter / wifi and reading this document also makes me think it could be paired to HE without a bridge like alexa using the mobile app?
Yes, you should be able to remove it from Alexa. They are completely separate pairings. However, I would not suggest that unless you really don't want it on Alexa, as it would currently leave you with no way to put the Matter device in pairing mode again to add it to another Fabric (like Alexa, Apple Home, etc.) if you wanted to do that, which Alexa at the moment still would. (You could still integrate it to Alexa or HomeKit from Hubitat using the regular Alexa skill or HomeKit Bridge integration, but that's not really what I mean.)
If it's Matter over Wi-Fi, yes, you could have also used the Hubitat mobile app to commission and pair it directly. However, the above would still apply, so if you plan to use it with other Matter Fabrics in the future, I'd still suggest commissioning and pairing the device with another controller first.
Thanks Robert, now another question. So I have ordered some kasa KP125m plugs. Reason is to power down hub remotely (after shutdown) in case of extended power outage. Also for some power monitoring. Has the power monitoring been fixed in the matter driver or would using the tp-link integration be the way? Also was kp125m a good choice for PM, I had read wifi was a good way to go because of lots of traffic
Power monitoring in the Generic Matter Outlet (or whatever it's called?) driver should have been fixed in a 2.4.2 hotfix, though there weren't/aren't a lot of these devices to test with and I'm not sure if this was one that was tested, so I can't say anything about it specifically for sure. Nor can I about the quality of its power monitoring or the suitability of Wi-Fi for this purpose, but it's certainly better than classic Z-Wave and possibly even modern Z-Wave if you are particularly unlucky. ![]()
(FWIW, I use a Z-Wave 500 plug to monitor my washer and a Z-Wave 800 relay added as LR to monitor my dryer, and both work without problem for me -- but are only really "chatty" when the appliances are in use, which is not most of the time. I'd consider Matter for either in the future aside from the fact that it's pretty new and occasionally quirky, and I don't really have a good reason to replace anything. The good news about the KP125M is that you could probably use the community Tapo integration to bring it in that way instead if Matter is wonky, though I'd expect a simple device like this to be pretty well figured out by now.)
