Matter Noob - Advice

I've just had a Zigbee outlet/socket fail and need to replace it (sticky switch remaining powered when 'off'). I only have about 3 Zigbee devices (now 2) and everything else is Z Wave. I've no Matter devices and haven't tried it on my hub yet but notice that the outlets are about a third of the price of Z Wave. I'm looking at the Onvis Matter Smart Plug which is on Amazon for about £18 in the UK and is on the compatibility list. Is it relatively straight forward for me to add this device (it is both Matter and Thread Router) or am I better sticking with Z Wave? I'm using Homekit for control outside the home with all my Hubitat devices and have 2 HomePod mini's and 2 ATV 4Ks. Any advice/pointers for a Matter noob appreciated.

I've read some of the posts on the forum but need to know a few basics:

Will I be able to add the device direct to Hubitat from new or do I add it to Apple Home first and then it's linked to Hubitat via Homekit?

Is there anything specific to look for. The Onvis models are thread whereas the Meross (dirt cheap) Matter outlets don't mention Thread and rely on 2.4GHz WiFi. I'm guessing Matter over thread is better?

I think this will answer both of your questions. As of the moment, you'll need a commissioner like Apple Home to get it on your network:

Thanks Robert, I'll take a look. I had a browse through several posts here but didn't think to check your documentation :+1:
