First of all I have a dozen wifi over matter bulbs, at first they were all pushed over to my C8 and a couple onto my C7, then my problems started, I got a new router/modem, and It failed after a couple of mins, and my internet supplier sent out an engineer out to sort things out and fitted another new router/modem, now everything is fine but whilst he was there cables, power supplies got plugged in and out and all the matter devices were lost. Now the failed router did not last long enough to finish setting it up. The router I have now is fine, but I could not re install any of the bulbs via my Echo, after a bit of head scratching I found a setting in my C8 so I clicked and got this.... it was in hub details ......(http://192.168.0.xxx/) (Ethernet), //192.168.0.xx/) (WiFi} now after that have got two instances of my C8
Question 1, can I get shut of the Wifi one. Question 2, can I remove the devices that are created on my Echo, without having to reinstall everything again
I'm going to start by saying disable either WiFi or Ethernet - the C-8 doesn't work well with both running as its primary connection (Matter WiFi devices and other integrations will still be able to work with the hub via the router if the hub is connecting via ethernet.)
Next, removing the devices from Echo has no effect on the hub, but chance are that the devices have new IP addresses that do not match the devices on the hub - it's been my experience that it is generally easier to re-add the Matter device to the hub selecting replace existing device, and then deleting the old device entry.
But how do I remove one of them
But will I still be able to install more matter devices if I get rid of the wifi internal ip
As long as the hub has an active connection to the router it can use the router to create a connection to any device on the same network.
Until I clicked that something created the wifi ip the matter devices would not connect to the C8
Have you read this:
I have just been trying something, do not use on one on the wifi instance and it does not disable it on the other instance, is that sufficient if I do to everything on the wifi instance?
Forget the above, it does disable it
I personally recommend using DHCP reservations for Matter devices.
Some (most) of myy Matter devices appeared to temporarily disconnect (sometimes requiring a manual power off-on). Since I already use wifi devices a lot, I asked Google "should I use dhcp reservations on matter devices". The answer was yes (and a verbose paragraph). Since I set DHCP reservations - no issues.
Another problem I have is that I can't thread over matter devices to be accepted by Hubitat from my echo
Not all Echo devices are Thread Border Routers (TBRs) but assuming yours is, you'd need to use the Echo device to put the device into pairing mode (I'd assume you'd need to use the Alexa app somehow) and then give Hubitat the pairing code when it asks during the Matter Device Add process.
