I have multiple switches including GE Enbrighten Z-Wave Smart Switch that donāt trigger any events. The logs donāt show any physical interaction. Any idea what the issue is?
Are you running ZWave JS or Legacy Z-Wave? (check settings, z-wave details, you'll have a button that says "Switch to {the one you're not using}")
I'm pretty sure that older GE/Jasco switches don't post physical events to the hub under Legacy Z-wave, but I was happy to find that physical on/off events are somehow immediately detected under ZWave JS. I used to use the Z-Wave poller to make sure they were sync'd to the hub, but was able to eliminate that after moving to ZWave JS.
That's not a lot of information for anyone to provide a good answer.
Are you saying that you have a rule, which when triggered by the operation of this Z-Wave switch, should perform 1 or more actions?
Are you saying that if you operate the switch from it's device page, that the rule triggers, and the actions occur.
But if you operate the switch physically, the rule does not trigger?
The first step would be to ignore the rule for now, and to verify if you see the switch status update on the device page when you operate it physically.
If my assumptions (guesses) of what is happening are entirely wrong, then please provide more details.
Sorry for bot being more specific:
- The rule works fine when triggered from hubitat
- The rule sometimes fires when manually switching the switch
The mesh is healthy. It seems that the device status is not reliably updated when physically interacting with the switch. In those cases the device log doesnāt show any events.
Are these switches recently installed, or have they been installed for a while and just started misbehaving? Do you happen to have the exact model number?
Similarly, is the rule new or an old rule that suddenly started misbehaving?
Depending on how old the GE switches are, they may require polling to help determine their status.
Check if your switches are Z-Wave or Z-Wave Plus.
The switch should be printed with that information. Also the newer versions of the switch have a QR code on the face plate.
Or, you can lookup the model number on the Internet.
Or, on the "Device Info" on the devices page for the switch, look for 0x5E in the "Device Details" section.
If your switch is not Z-Wave Plus, you will need to run a polling app or create a simple rule to periodically send a refresh command to the device.

I see. The devices that have issues arenāt z-wave plus. Iāll check the article. Thanks.
