Make my own in-wall Zigbee oulets

I happen to have an insurance inspector that is in my extended family... I assure you that checking for non-certified devices is one of the standard things they do on a fire investigation.

They typically start opening up other outlets and digging to look for things exactly like this, too (if it is a large fire/claim. I doubt they do that on small claims, but didn't ask)

My inspector family member has warned me of this probably a dozen times. Lol

Insurance companies love to find a reason to not pay. Just is what it is.

My personal tolerance for using a DIY solution that might contribute to the risk of a fire is essentially zero.

Any device can fail or otherwise lead to an unsafe electrical wiring situation, which includes brand-name devices intended for sale in North America (which that device on Aliexpress is not).

However, Nationally Recognized Testing Labs (like UL for instance, but there are others like Intertek and CSA) exist for a reason.

Even if one’s own risk tolerance is higher, it’s the insurance company’s opinion that matters in the end.
