Ok, so front (and optionally rear) doorbell momentary contact pushbuttons to the dry contact inputs on the ZEN16 .. no power on these. A relay on/off rings the chimes. ZEN16 is powered by 12-24V AC (which also powers the chimes).
Got it.

That is exactly what I do. You provided a better description than I could.
I'm guessing hooking the doorbell(s) to the dry contacts would not light up a doorbell if it has a lamp.
I was thinking that too, but I can live without the lamp.
Nope, it does not. But the nice thing about HE, is it is impossible to be infront of my doorbell in the dark. Lights automatically turn on if someone approaches my door at nighttime.
Hi @Stephan.J does my diagram look a little like what you did?
This is the best explanation as to how to wire it and accurately describes what needs to be done in terms of wiring. If you want to power the zen16 from a USB, then you will need to power the chime relay from the doorbell transformer.
Once a clear description of how to wire has been provided, I do not like to give any further advice on the wiring, as it is impossible to know which one of the many wiring configurations may exist in another person's house.
(your diagram does not look at all look like what I did, but I am not using my zen16 for a garage door, and I am not powering from a USB, I am powering the Zen16 from the doorbell transformer)
