Lutron RA2 Select - Support?

I’m currently getting a quote for an install of an RA2 Select lighting system. A couple of questions on the integration with hubitat.

Can Picos be used to control both lighting natively in the lutron eco system and in parallel can hubitat also be aware of button events? E.g. scene button does some stuff on the RA2 Platform and Hubitat also knows the button was pressed?

Does the integration support the inline dimmers and relays ? i.e. can I control lutron lighting from Hubitat?

Yes, you can use Picos on either Lutron or Hubitat or both. (I'm kind of weird, I suppose: none of my Picos do anything at all on Lutron. They only do things on Hubitat.) Pico button do get interpreted as button events on Hubitat. You don't have to add all Picos--or any Lutron device--to Hubitat if you don't want to, so they can also just exist happily only in Lutron if you don't care about them over on Hubitat.

I've never used the inline dimmers or relays, but I imagine they'd be similar to the in-wall switches and dimmers and both send events (on/off/level) to Hubitat and be controllable from Hubitat (via the corresponding commands) in the same way. I can't speak to that for certain, but I'd be surprised if they were different. The main thing I know on RA2 Select (and Caseta) that doesn't work with Hubitat is the motion ("occupancy" or "vacancy" in Lutron terms) sensors, as they don't send events over telnet like they do on a "full" RA2 system.

Thanks for the info! I’ll have to read up on the differences between the Select & “Full”..

In-line dimmers are for Europe/UK only. And "full" is for US only. Select works both places.

Hi Bill,

Seeing a few of these pop up on eBay from uk sellers

Lutron-RadioRA2-Main-Repeater-RRK-MAIN-REP-WH

Would I also need a Lutron connect for Ethernet connectivity

I’m in the UK.

Cheers

D

The RadioRA 2 main repeater connects to Ethernet on its own but the Connect Bridge is needed to use the Lutron mobile app, both locally and when away from home.

You’ll need software that Lutron controls access to in order to setup the RadioRA 2 repeater and the rest of a RadioRA 2 system, which may not be possible if you’re in the UK.

You would need the Connect Bridge for internet/Lutron Connect app connectivity. It's not strictly needed for Hubitat usage, but IMO it's a good thing to have. Another thing it does is keep the Main Repeater's clock in sync via the Connect Bridge's internet connection.

As I'm in the US, I'm not 100% familiar with the combinations of products available in the UK. Lutron does not advertise the usage of the "full" RadioRA 2 product line in Europe/UK. So while the product exists, I'm not sure of the application. There may be some Grafik Eye applications. I don't even know if it's compatible with the inline dimmers.

They do advertise the RA2 Select line.

In the US the RadioRA 2 product line extends to the physical dimmers ("full" and Select) and seeTouch keypads ("full" only) which are the best feeling controls IMO. In the UK the RA2 Select is limited to the Picos and inline controls. Without knowing your use case, I have a hard time seeing a case where in the UK a "full" system is going to be more useful than a Select system.
