ok, I have no DNI of the LR plugs are over 255. I have not even used the app! I usually just type the IP address into safari. So I need the app which also has smart start? i will get the app on my ipad and go from there. so then i have to ask, why is the radio set to LR and not using the non LR selection? this is like teaching an old dog new tricks! but to confirm, smart start must be used for all LR devices or all devices now?
LR uses an additional frequency which the radio will not listen for if not set to LR. Otherwise, US and US LR are the same, and the US selection was automatically updated to US LR on existing hubs to make LR possible without needing to manually change anything if/when you use it in the future.
Yes, that is part of the Z-Wave spec. (Technically, you can also manually input the code, but that's another way of doing Smart Start in the end without a camera. The point is that traditional inclusion won't work.)
thanks, i just added the app to my ipad and loaded the smartstart user app.. ipad has a camera for the QR code. this has been a very valuable discussion, thanks to all.
so a question for you, now that this is a result of a "normal" add device, should I exclude the 4 Zooz plugs and add them back via smartstart?
Smart Start is new to me. Which apps to use? And how can I use without camera if no QR available?
That's up to you: do you want to use Z-Wave LR for these devices? If so, you'll need to remove and re-add via Smart Start. If not (LR devices are backwards compatible, as is Z-Wave in general), it doesn't really matter.
You don't have a smart phone or tablet that can run the Hubitat mobile app? This is the app you need. There is also a community app that can add SmartStart data via HTTP endpoints on the hub (which, with great difficulty, you could also use yourself to do the same).

Without any of that, you'd need the full DSK, which you can get from the QR code (definitely easier with a camera) or usually printed somewhere on/in the device packaging, often not quite on the device itself (though some may) due to the limited space. I don't actually remember the exact format needed off the top of my head but think it matches the one printed, not the one you'd get from a "raw" scan of the QR code, though that data is part of the QR code data as well.
You need to have a Local (not Cloud) connection with the app to add devices -- in other words, it needs to be connected to your home wifi network, not cellular.
In your screenshot, your current connection is cellular, so it's a Cloud cennection.
just looking at the app for the first time, if you are home (so you can access your local network) and you click on the person symbol in the upper left corner of the app, it will bring up "my account", then select registered hubs. this will bring you directly to your hubs on the local network.
Yes, but it will take you to their web-based admin interface that you can do without the mobile app (just use any browser and go to the IP address, or use findmyhub.hubitat.com to look for it if you're not sure). Smart Start must be done via the mobile app specifically, and not from the hub UI, regardless of how you access it (or some less official solutions I alluded to above -- but is not where I would start).
i am seeing that, on the ipad there is no tools button, so using the iphone, just tried to add one device using smart start, it looks like a success! and it was included using S2... the only "trick" for those doing this the first time, if you do not back out and then back into smartstart, it will show not included. it needs a refresh... thanks for all of the help with this, it has been an enlightening learning experience. i tried it with the Aeotec recessed door 7 which has been brutally stubborn connecting with S2..
one more thing for those without the DSK and have access to simplicity studio with a z-wave stick, when the device is added to simplicity studio, a message box will pop up asking for the 1st 5 digits and the remainder of the DSK is visible as well, so if you have the first 5 digits and need the remained of the number to add manually, this may help you.
Thank you all. This is my learning curve. I will practice the guidances and let you know soon.
Sorry for bothering again. I returned home , connected my mobile into Wi-Fi. Run Hubitat mobile app and still see โCloudโ beside the Hub name. Do I need to disconnect router from AT&T internet? Or what to do? Please help.
Are you on iOS? If so, there seems to be a bug affecting the local/cloud switch for some users on the current app... Staff has acknowledged it, and stated it should be patched in the next beta app release, and the subsequent prod release should follow that beta fairly fast, but no timeline has been provided.
I think this is the best thread overall about it, and it include the staff response (post #96) I mention above...
As I mentioned in response to your posts in this thread , a commonly available on line QR code scanner could be used. I can't see not using the QR scan method on the Android/Apple app though.
Thanks. Yes I am using iOS
