Lost contact with my C8

For some reason the C8 is not responding. I can find it using the MAC address when I click on it my browser can't open it. I have restarted it at least a dozen times without success.

It is set for a fixed IP, is connected to the LAN via Ethernet, and shows up on my router without an IP address and only the first few characters of the MAC address.

How do I get my system back. My wife is not happy.

Can you access the Diagnostic Tool?

If your "fixed IP" is a static IP set on the hub (as opposed to a DHCP reservation on your router or similar), have you verified those network settings? Since it sounds like you cannot access the hub, you may need to do a network reset if this is the reason. To find the new IP, either your router or findmyhub.hubitat.com should help.

As a side question: how did you reboot without access to the regular interface?

I can't access it with the port number. I restarted it by unplugging it.

Press the network reset button on the bottom of the hub for 7 seconds with a toothpic or paperclip. This will reset the network. Once you see the green light, from a pc go to hubitat.local , if you cannot reach it go to hubitat.local:8081

It is preferable to avoid unplugging if you can (more chance for database corruption), but if you can't access the hub via the regular interface or Diagnostic Tool, that may be the only option.

But I'd second the suggestion for a network reset. Since you can't access the diagnostic Tool, this strongly suggests network misconfiguration -- especially if the LED on the front of the hub is green or even blue. (If it's red, you might have other problems...)

I have tried accessing it every way possible, hence unplugging it.

The app shows that it is active. And last checkin was about 20 minutes ago. I have a green light. My Ethernet switch shows activity coming and going.

I have reset the unit by pushing the button for 10 seconds. No joy there.

I am at a loss as to what to do next.

Sounds like your hub can reach the cloud. This is good, but just a matter of figuring out why you can't reach it yourself. Do you have any unusual network configuration at home, like separate vLANs or guest networks? Is the phone/tablet/laptop you're using to access the hub on the same network as your hub?

Yup. Everything is on the same network. Nothing fancy, Same subnet. I do have a mesh network since I have several outbuildings that are a ways out but they are all connected via Ethernet (300 feet). I am on a Starlink system to latency is huge and quite variable.

But the good news is that I am back and can access the hub. I recycled the Starlink thinking that it might have an issue with DHCP since I reset the C8. It came back on a different IP address and I switched back to a fixed IP and my system is once again working like it should.

My wife is happy again. She has put up with my home automation for 40 years so we are good.

I would leave the hub on DHCP and add a reservation to your hub instead.
