Looking for suggestions for good Z Wave plugs

Converting wifi smart plugs to something Hubitat can manage. Bought some Sonoff Matter plugs from Amazon. The C7 and Alexa see them but asking Alexa to turn on or off have Alexas telling me they are offline, even though turned on or off as requested.

Is this a Matter , Hubitat or Alexa issue? I have read a bit that Matter is the future, just not sure if ready for prime time.

Looking to plug in the wall socket, not replace the receptacle.

Suggestions? Looking to replace about 12 Gosund smart plugs. I have Amazon Basic but got bummed out when our internet was down for > 8 hours due to storms and Alexa could not turn on/off.
Love the C7 so far, about 55 devices.

Honestly go zigbee, it's cheaper and just as reliable...(I say this as someone with 60 odd z-wave devices)

I also would say Zigbee is the way to go for outlets/plugs. I have ThrirdReality plug in ones and Jasco in wall ones and they work well and they are all repeaters. I gave all my Peanut Plugs to my daughter when I gave her a Hubitat and they are working well for her and they are Zigbee also.

Another non Z-Wave option that I personally like is the WiZ Smart Plug.

Works locally with Hubitat but can also be controlled with the WiZ App.

Hmm, just noticed they are listing the Smart Plug Gen 2 on their website.

My Wiz plugs are first generation so... might be different now. :man_shrugging:

Also a fan of the Third Reality Plugs, all of my 3rd Reality are the non power reporting flavour (which are still available at Amazon.ca :smiley:).

Edit: Have look at Shelly, they make good stuff.

Which "hub" did you pair these to, Alexa or Hubitat or other?

The readers here don't have enough info from you to give a complete answer.

A good start is to observe the device settings page in Hubitat, go to Commands tab, and see what current states do when you turn the outlet on and off. If States aren't correct, you won't get correct feedback from things like Hubitat dashboards and Alexa. (Alexa> Hubitat> plug> response from plug> Hubitat> Alexa) This scenario presumes Alexa is tied to Hubitat, and Hubitat is giving the feedback to Alexa, I.E. you are using the Alexa skill in Hubitat.

If Alexa is the "hub" and you are getting an incorrect response without the Hubitat hub involved, then it is an Alexa or plug issue. (Alexa> plug> response from plug> Alexa)

If you want to ensure compatibility with habitat I would start with the compatible device list.

with the information provided it could be any of the above and also your network. This i something you should troubleshoot and narrow down the issue.

This will be the case be just about all voice assistants. Apple “can” do local voice control thru some of their phones, but its not consistent across their ecosystem yet.

I put (2) z wave's around the house and used Minoston Zwave Plug, 800 series. They work good

Alexa enabled?

First, enabled in the eWeLink app, then added with the pairing code to Hubitat, then enabled in the Alexa Echo skill.
I normally do not open the Hubitat app/web to check status. The statement “not online” is repeated moments after asking Alexa to turn on/off. It probably executes the command without the offline comment > 80% of the time.
Does the Hubitat c7 control Matter locally or through cloud?

You can add Matter direct to Hubitat with C5 and later. How to use Matter on Hubitat Elevation | Hubitat Documentation

You might try to remove these from Ewelink, and directly pair to Hubitat and share to Alexa via Hubitat.

I believe Matter works local if you are using Hubitat and you are on the same local network as these devices, but if you involve Alexa, Ewelink, or other ecosystems, they are certainly cloud based.

I believe you just answered my question. I could not get the Matter plug to pair initially with Hubitat. Instructions in the package had me download the eWeLink app, configure, then add under devices >Matter>pair code., then share with Alexa.
