Looking for a Soil Moisture sensor for indoor use

Hi,

I am looking for a Soil Moisture sensor (Zigbee/Z-Wave) for my plants indoor. I have seen the Spruce thread (Spruce Zigbee Soil Moisture Sensors - driver needed?) but that does not seem to give very accurate readings?

Anyone know of some nice working alternatives?

Could something like this (https://www.seeedstudio.com/Grove-Capacitive-Moisture-Sensor-Corrosion-Resistant.html) be combined with a simple Zigbee transmitter? Or will an RPi be neccessary?

Thanks

I use these:

You'll need a GW1000 gateway but thanks to @mircolino, the driver is available.

To be fair, I have never checked the sensor accuracy against a reference but the numbers seem to be reasonable and certainly good enough to remind my wife to water the plants.

True accuracy is not necessary for me either, as long as it is consistent, which these sounds to be. Certainly an alternative, maybe a little pricey... Thanks!

@haas I’m super interested. Let’s connect and chat, please!

Spruce also makes one, though they have been out of stock for some time. They can be a bit finicky but they are fun to play with.

Here's the ebay listing for the board...

The moisture sensor to hook up to it is the ubiquitous "Analog Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor v1.2" ...

The board has op-amp buffered analog inputs, so it can handle the high impedance of the sensor.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Sweet!

Thanks a lot!
